Manipur Sangai Festival 2017

Every year the State of Manipur celebrates the “Manipur Sangai Festival” from 21st to 30th November.

About the Sangai festival:

Sangai Festival is an annual cultural extravaganza in Manipur.

Every edition of the festival showcases the tourism potential of the state in the field of Arts & Culture, Handloom, Handicrafts, Indigenous Sports, Cuisine, Music and Adventure sports of the state etc.

Background:

The ‘Festival’ is named after the State animal, Sangai, the brow-antlered deer found only in Manipur.

It started in the year 2010 and has grown over the years into a big platform for Manipur to showcase its rich tradition and culture to the world.

India successfully tested Brahmos

Brahmos supersonic cruise missile was successfully test fired for the first time from the Indian Air Force’s frontline Sukhoi-30 MKI combat jet.

Key features:

The name Brahmos has been taken from two rivers – Brahmaputra and Moskva.

BrahMos is a joint venture between the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) of India and NPOM of Russia.

India’s first mission to study the Sun scheduled for 2019: ISRO

ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) Satellite Centre Director Mylswamy Annadurai recently revealed its plans to launch ‘Aditya-L1’, the first Indian mission to study the Sun, by the year 2019 – 2020.

About Aditya-L1:

A Satellite placed in the halo orbit around the Lagrangian point 1 (L1) of the Sun-Earth system has the major advantage of continuously viewing the Sun without any eclipses.

The project has been approved and the satellite will be launched in the 2019 – 2020 timeframe by PSLV-XL from Sriharikota.
