Purnima Barman & Sanjay Gubbi Won Green Oscars’ Award
Sanjay Gubbi of Karnataka and Purnima Barman of Assam have won Whitley Award, popularly known as Green Oscars, for their efforts in wildlife conservation.
About the Whitley Awards (UK):
The Whitley Awards are made annually by the Whitley Fund for Nature (WFN) to recognise and celebrate effective national and regional conservation leaders across the globe.
The awards are worth £35,000 (2016) and are now amongst the most high profile of conservation prizes.
And it is called as the “Green Oscars”.
Mr. Gubbi has been awarded for his work to protect tiger corridors in Karnataka.
Ms. Barman has won the award for her work in conservation of Assam’s Greater Adjutant Stork and its habitat.

M.S. Swaminathan: The Quest for a world without hunger – book on Dr. MS Swaminathan
The Prime Minister released a two-part book series on the eminent agricultural scientist Dr. M.S. Swaminathan.
About Dr. M.S. Swaminathan:
Mankombu Sambasivan Swaminathan (born on 7 August 1925) is an Indian geneticist and international administrator.
He was well known for his leading role in India’s Green Revolution a program under which high-yield varieties of wheat and rice seedlings were planted in the fields of poor farmers.
Swaminathan is known as “Indian Father of Green Revolution” for his leadership and success in introducing and further developing high-yielding varieties of wheat in India. He is the founder and chairman of the MS Swaminathan Research Foundation.

Indian Men’s Team Won Compound Gold in World Cup Archery
The Indian men’s compound team won gold in the archery World Cup stage 1 championship in Shanghai, China on Saturday.
India were represented by Abhishek Verma, Chinna Raju Srither and Amanjeet Singh.
They defeated Colombia team to achieve the gold.
India beat the United States of America (USA) in the semifinal and Iran in the quarterfinals.
