Jallikattu & Kambala

An Ordinance promulgated to lift the ban on jallikattu in Tamil Nadu was cleared by the central government.

With this, the demand for lifting the ban on kambala (Buffalo racing) is gaining momentum in coastal Karnataka.

Kambala:

Kambala is an annual Buffalo Race held traditionally in coastal Karnataka. The Kambala season generally starts in November and lasts until March.

INS Vikramaditya get ATM

The ATM machine has been installed onboard INS Vikramaditya (India’s largest warship) by SBI. This is the first time that a warship will have an operational ATM even on the high seas.

The facilities offered by the State Bank of India to the ship include cash withdrawals, generation of mini-statements, access to bank balance details and change of PIN numbers.

Guinness record by Gujarat

In Gujarat, during the Kagvad Event in Rajkot over 3.5 lakh people have set a new world record by singing the national anthem.

The occasion was the installation of the idol of goddess Khodiyar at the newly-built Khodal Dham temple in the town.

Desh Prem Divas – Bose’s Birthday

Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s birthday or Netaji Jayanti is celebrated as ”Desh Prem Divas” on 23rd January.

Bose was one of the most prominent leaders of the Indian Independence Movement. He spread the feeling of national integration, sacrifice and communal harmony among the masses.

About Bose:

In the course of struggle for freedom Netaji formed Azad Hind Fauz and led the Indian National Army.

He advocated a revolutionary and violent way to protest as opposed to non-violent approach by Mahatma Gandhi.

He founded his own party on 3rd May 1939 in the name of “All India Forward Block”.

Netaji Jayanti is observed as a public holiday in the the state of West Bengal.
