NORTH KOREA’s FIFTH NUCLEAR TEST

North Korea tested it’s fifth nuclear test at Punggyeri nuclear site.

The power of the blast is nearly 10 kilotons and it is nearly twice the power of the fourth nuclear test and slightly less than the Hiroshima bombing, which was measured about 15 kilotons.

 

CM SCOOTY SCHEME FOR GIRLS IN JAMMU AND KASHMIR

Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti announced the special scheme for college going girl students to make them independent.

College going girl students will be given 50% subsidy on purchase of Scooty.

 

KALKI AWARD FOR TWO MUSICIANS

Vocalist Ashwath Narayanan and Violinist Charumathi Raghuraman received KALKI award.

 

ISSUES BETWEEN ADMINSTRATIVE POWER OVER NATIONAL CAPITAL TERRITORY (Delhi)

Supreme court to hear law on whether the Lieutenant Governor(LG) can unilaterally administer the National capital without being bound by the “aid and advice” of the elected government.

Facts:

Article 239 (1): Every union territory shall be administered by the president through an administrator appointed by him.

Article 239AA: Inserted by the 69th amendment,1991, precludes Delhi from control over land, police and public order

On Aug 4,2016: The Delhi court said Delhi will remain a U.T with LG as its administrative head

The seven Union territories are Delhi, Pondicherry, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chandigarh, Lakshadweep, Diu and Daman and Dadra Nagar and Haveli. Among these, Delhi and Pondicherry has elected legislative assembly.
