Turga Pumped Storage

A Loan Agreement was recently signed between India and Japan on Japanese Official Development Assistance loan for the construction of Turga Pumped Storage (I) of Yen 29.442 Billion (Rs. 1817 crore approximately).

About Turga Pumped Storage project:

The Turga Pumped Storage Project on Turga nala is a closed loop type Pumped Storage Project located in Purulia district of West Bengal.

The Turga Pumped Storage Project envisages utilization of rainfall in the catchment of the Turga Nala in Ayodhya hills for peak power generation for a Pumped Storage type project development.

NASA’s Orion spacecraft

Europe’s Airbus has delivered the “powerhouse” for NASA’s new Orion Spaceship that will take astronauts to the Moon and beyond in coming years, hitting a key milestone that should lead to hundreds of millions of euros in future orders.

Airbus’s European Service Module will provide propulsion, power, thermal control and consumables to the Orion crew module, marking the first time that NASA will use a European-built system as a critical element to power an American spacecraft.

About Orion:

NASA’s Orion spacecraft is built to take humans farther than they’ve ever gone before.

Orion will serve as the exploration vehicle that will carry the crew to space, provide emergency abort capability, sustain the crew during the space travel, and provide safe re-entry from deep space return velocities. Orion will launch on NASA’s new heavy-lift rocket, the Space Launch System.

Lithuania takes a step forward with women on traffic symbols

Lithuania’s capital Vilnius installed traffic lights featuring female symbols to celebrate the 100th anniversary of women getting the vote in the Baltic state.

When was women getting vote?

On November 2, 1918 the first draft of the Constitution of Lithuania was adopted. The right for women to vote was written into the Lithuanian Constitution on that day, ahead of France or the United States.

U.K Parliament award for Palanivelu

Palanivelu, Chairman of GEM Hospital in Coimbatore, was honoured with the award for “Original Contribution to the Development of Laparoscopic Surgery” at the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom recently.

Baroness Lidia Antunes – Frederico, Chairman of Health Committee of Parliament of U.K., presented the award with medals and certificates.

This makes Dr. Palanivelu the first Indian to be recognised in the Parliament of United Kingdom, among the 32 eminent medical professionals from various countries.

Jamshedpur Fairy Singh – Ambassador of Australia made for one day

Fairy Singh, who lives in Patlata, Naxal-affected village of Jamshedpur, appreciated India and became the ambassador of Australia for one day in New Delhi.


Fiona emerged victorious on the International Girl’s Day organized by the United Nations, after which she got an opportunity to become the ambassador of Australia.
