Right of temple entry

Supreme Court has announced women have the constitutional right of equal access to public places of worship to pray.

What’s the issue?

Women are not allowed to enter Sabarimala temple. The discrimination is based on physiological reason as women between the age group of 10-50 undergo menstruation.

Key facts:

All Hindus have the right to enter the temple and denying them the right was a kind of “untouchability” which was abolished by Article 17 of the Constitution.

It also goes against the spirit of Articles 14, 15 and 21.

Make child marriages invalid

The Ministry of Women and Child Development has proposed to make child marriages as “void ab initio” (invalid from the outset).

Current situation in India about child marriage:

Currently, child marriages are valid in India, but can be invalid if a case is filed in a district court by either of the two contracting parties within two years of becoming an adult, or through a guardian in case of minors.

Background:

The legal age for marriage in India is 18 for a woman and 21 for a man.

Way ahead:

If approved, it will amend the provisions of the law that allow child marriages to continue till a case is filed in a district court by either of the two contracting parties within two years of becoming an adult, or through a guardian in case of minors.

Ex Pitch Black

It is a biennial multi-national large force employment warfare exercise hosted by the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF).

The aim of the exercise is to practice Offensive Counter Air (OCA) and Defensive Counter Air (DCA) combat, in a simulated war environment.
