International Solar Alliance

Bolivia has joined the International Solar Alliance by signing the framework agreement on International Solar Alliance.


The agreement of the International Solar Alliance was open for signature during the COP22 at Marrakech on November 15, 2016. The signatories of the agreement include India, France, Australia, UAE, UK, Japan amongst others.

About ISA:

The International Solar Alliance (ISA) is an alliance of more than 122 countries initiated by India, most of them being sunshine countries, which lie either completely or partly between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn, now extended to all members of UN. The Paris Declaration establishes ISA as an alliance dedicated to the promotion of solar energy among its member countries.


The ISA’s major objectives include global deployment of over 1,000GW of solar generation capacity and mobilisation of investment of over US$ 1000 billion into solar energy by 2030.

When it entered into force?

When the ISA Framework Agreement entered into force on December 6th, 2017, ISA formally became a de-jure treaty based International Intergovernmental Organization, headquartered at Gurugram, India.

Prime Minister of Republic of Guinea visited India

Prime Minister of Guinea, Dr Ibrahima Kassory Fofana arrived in New Delhi and met Indian President, Shri Ram Nath Kovind to improve the bilateral ties between India and Guinea.

Key Facts:

India is one of the top trading partners of Guinea and India-Guinea bilateral ties was around 900 million US Dollars in 2017-18.

Australia launched 7 Nation Military exercise in Indian Ocean

Australia is conducting 7 nation Indian Ocean military exercise along with Sri Lanka, India, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia and Singapore. Australia sent 4 Naval Ships and one military aircraft along with 1000 security personnel making it one the biggest military exercise.

The exercise is aimed to counter the growing Chinese influence in the India Ocean.

Slovaks elect first woman President

Zuzana Caputova as Slovakia’s first elected woman President won 58.4% of the vote according to a final tally of results, compared with 41.6% for her ruling party rival, EU Energy Commissioner Maros Sefcovic.

About her:

Čaputová will be the first woman to hold the presidency, as well as the youngest president in the history of Slovakia, at age 45.

She first became known by prevailing in a decade-long struggle against the situating of a toxic landfill in her hometown of Pezinok. For this, Čaputová was awarded the 2016 Goldman Environmental Prize.

PSLV-C45 successfully launches EMISAT and 28 customer satellites

India’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-C45) successfully launched EMISAT and 28 international customer satellites from Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) SHAR in Sriharikota. This flight marked the first mission of PSLV-QL, a new variant of PSLV with four strap-on motors.

EMISAT is a satellite built around ISRO’s Mini Satellite-2 bus weighing about 436 kg. The satellite is intended for electromagnetic spectrum measurement.

The 28 international customer satellites, together weighing about 220 kg, are from four countries, namely, Lithuania (2), Spain (1), Switzerland (1) and USA (24).
