The Northeast Monsoon (NEM), spanning October to December, serves as the primary rainfall window for Tamil Nadu, contributing approximately 48% to 50% of the state’s annual precipitation (and up to 60% in coastal districts).
Northeast Monsoon: Seasonal reversal where winds blow from northeast to southwest (continental to maritime). As these winds pass over the Bay of Bengal, they pick up moisture and hit the Coromandel Coast.
Super El Nino: Abnormal warming of equatorial Central/Eastern Pacific Sea Surface Temperatures (SSTs). +0.5 degree in El Nino Years and +2.0 degree in Super El Nino Years. It reverses the Humbolt Current (in Peruvian coast)
ENSO: El Nino Southern Oscillation
IOD (Indian Ocean Dipole): The difference in Sea Surface Temperature (SST) between the western equatorial Indian Ocean (Arabian Sea) and the eastern equatorial Indian Ocean (near Indonesia).
Cloud Burst: Intense precipitation greater than 100 mm (10 cm) per hour over a localized geographical area of roughly 20 to 30 square kilometre.

- 97.6% of surveyed school children (aged 9–14) access the internet primarily via smartphones at home, averaging 4.5 hours daily.
- Health & Psychological Impact: High prevalence of anxiety, sleep disruption, mood swings, loneliness, anger, and signs of digital addiction.
- Safety Risks: 47% reported interacting with strangers online; risks of cyberbullying, impersonation, and exposure to algorithmic persuasion.
- Policy Recommendation: Recommends a multi-stakeholder framework building critical digital literacy among students and parents rather than relying on functional tech skills alone.
