• Digital Driving Licences (DLs) & Registration Certificates (RCs):
  • Government Order (G.O.): Following a state announcement, digital DLs and RCs will be available for download free of charge for one year starting September 13 (or until amendments to the Tamil Nadu Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 take effect).
  • Features: Documents will incorporate QR codes linked to official government databases via m-Parivahan and DigiLocker for real-time verification and prevention of duplication. Printing facilities will be enabled at e-Seva centres from September 15.
• Enhancement of Police-Public Ratio:
  • Data: Following the sanctioning of 29,108 additional police posts, Tamil Nadu’s police-public ratio is projected to surpass the national average.
  • Context: The State’s police-public ratio was 171.98 in 2024 compared to the national average of 194.40, and the new cadre posts aim to reduce field workload and improve emergency response.

• Prof. S. Solomon Pappaiah:
  • Towering Tamil scholar, renowned pattimandram (debate) moderator, and educator passed away at 90 in Madurai. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 2021 for his distinguished contributions to literature and education.

• 18th BRICS Summit 2026 (New Delhi):
  • Bilateral Dialogues: Hosted at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. Russian President Vladimir Putin met PM Narendra Modi to review bilateral cooperation across defence, energy, and space.
  • Bharat Innovates Exposition: Organized on the sidelines by the Ministry of Education and Ministry of External Affairs, showcasing 37 Indian deep-tech innovations—including floating solar PV platforms, rare-earth-free e-powertrains, and AI-driven screening platforms for cervical cancer and foetal health.
  • BRICS FMCBG Joint Statement: Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors expressed deep concern over the “unilateral imposition” of tariffs and non-tariff trade barriers, calling for transparent cross-border payment mechanisms in local currencies and forming a BRICS Task Force on Growth and Development.
