• Tamil Nadu Private Universities (Amendment) Bill, 2026:
  • Policy Revision: Passed in the Legislative Assembly, the Bill significantly lowers the statutory land and endowment requirements for establishing new private universities in Tamil Nadu.
  • New Land Requirements: Reduced to 12 acres within Greater Chennai Corporation, 18 acres in other municipal corporations, and 25 acres across the rest of the State.
  • Endowment Fund: Permanent endowment fund requirement reduced to ₹25 crore.
  • Objective: Aimed at attracting world-class private higher education institutions and global academic partners to the State.

• 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi:
  • Summiteers: Hosted in New Delhi, featuring attendance by Chinese President Xi Jinping (his first visit to India in 7 years since the 2019 Mamallapuram informal summit), Russian President Vladimir Putin, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, and UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
