Reconstitution of State Law Commission: The Tamil Nadu government reconstituted the State Law Commission, appointing Justice D. Krishnakumar (former Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court) as its Chairman.

First Digital Census & Caste Enumeration (Census 2027):
- The second phase of the Census—Population Enumeration (PE)—commenced early in Ladakh and snow-bound non-synchronous areas of J&K, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand (running from August 17 to September 30, 2026) ahead of the rest of India (February 2027).
- Key Methodology: India’s first digital Census incorporates 40 parameters and features an open-ended column for caste enumeration, where enumerators record caste names exactly as supplied by respondents. Defense structures along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) are recorded as “special charges” on paper schedules to avoid geo-tagging risks.
