National Events:

American Express Corp:

  • American Express Corp on 12 September 2022 appointed Sanjay Khanna as the chief executive officer & country manager for India .
  • Khanna currently heads the executive team & is responsible for driving growth across the organization’s consumer & commercial businesses.
  • American Express is an American multinational corporation specialising in payment card services. HQ : New York Founded : 1850.

 

NLEM:

  • Dr Mansukh Mandaviya , Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare , launched National Lists of Essential Medicines ( NLEM ) 2022 , on 13 September 2022. 384 drugs have been included in this list with addition of 34 drugs.
  • The ” essential medicines ” are those that satisfy the priority health care needs , based on efficacy , safety , quality and total cost of the treatment.

 

Sibi George:

  • Senior diplomat Sibi George has been appointed as the next Indian ambassador to Japan. George , a 1993 – batch Indian Foreign Service officer , is currently the Ambassador of India to Kuwait.
  • He will replace Sanjay Kumar Verma as India’s envoy to Japan. He previously served as Ambassador of India to Switzerland as well.

 

JIMEX 22:

  • The 6th edition of Japan India Maritime Exercise 2022 ( JIMEX 22 ) hosted by the Indian Navy began in the Bay of Bengal on 11 September 2022.
  • The Indian Navy is represented by 3 indigenously designed and built warships. This edition marks the 10th anniversary of JIMEX , which began in Japan in 2012.

 

Turned into a power surplus nation:

  • The government has informed that India has turned into a power surplus nation with a total installed electricity capacity of over 4 lakh Mega Watt.
  • India is the world’s third largest producer of renewable energy , with 40 % of its installed electricity capacity coming from non – fossil fuel sources.
  • Power generation from renewable energy sources has increased to 1,38,337 Gigawatt hours in 2020.

 

Gujarat:

  • Home Minister Amit Shah , virtually inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for various projects the Gujarat Government worth 1200 crore rupees in Gandhinagar on 13 Sept 2022.
  • Gujarat accounts for 57 percent of the country’s total foreign investments in the last year. The state also holds a 30 percent share of the country’s total exports.

 

Kerala:

  • Kerala will seek nod of the Supreme Court to kill stray dogs that are dangerous , amid growing cases of stray dog bites in the State.
  • A month – long massive vaccination drive will also be undertaken from the 20th of September across the State. Around 10 thousand dogs will be vaccinated per day and more people will be trained for this.

 

Rakhigarhi Village:

  • The world’s largest museum of Harappan culture will be set up in Haryana’s Rakhigarhi village.
  • The village of Rakhigarhi was part of the Indus Valley Civilisation from 2600-1900 BC. The museum will display some 5000 – year – old Indus Valley artefacts. It was in 1963 that the ASI first started digging up the village.

 

Hughes:

  • Hughes Communications India has announced the launch of its first high throughput satellite ( HTS ) broadband internet service in India.
  • The service will offer satellite internet to remote locations across India and will use the Indian Space Research Organisation ( ISRO ) ‘ s GSAT – 11 & GSAT – 29 satellites. Hughes is a joint venture entity of US – based Hughes Network Systems and Bharti Airtel.

 

Ayurveda Day 2022:

  • All India Institute of Ayurveda ( AIIA ) has launched Ayurveda Day 2022 programme. The six – week long programme will continue till 23 October 2022.
  • Ministry of AYUSH celebrates Ayurveda Day every year on Dhanvantari Jayanti and this year ( 2022 ) it will be celebrated on 23 October. The theme for the celebration is ‘ Har Din Har Ghar Ayurveda ‘.

 

Early Intervention Centre- Prayas:

  • Early Intervention Centre- Prayas has been established at Army Hospital ( Research and Referral ) in New Delhi.
  • It has been established to alleviate the suffering and instil confidence in parents in dealing with differently – abled children.
  • The centre is a comprehensive state – of – the – art facility which is dedicated to children with special needs.

 

Tamil Nadu Events:

IIT – Madras & University of Sydney:

  • IIT – Madras & University of Sydney have entered into a research partnership to help address the energy challenges facing nations across the world.
  • The partnership will see each of the institutions investing AU $ 50,000 a year in joint funding for up to four research projects.
  • Experts from both institutions will work together to develop research & advanced technology in fields related to energy.

 

International Events:

G20:

  • India will host the G20 Leaders ‘ Summit at the level of Heads of State and Government on 9-10 Sept 2023 in New Delhi. India will assume the Presidency of the G20 for one year from 1st Dec 2022 to 30 November 2023.
  • The G20 is an intergovernmental forum of the world’s major developed and developing economies. It comprises 19 countries including Australia , China , France , Germany , India , etc.

 

Humanitarian aid:

  • India on 12 Sept 2022 handed over the 12th consignment of humanitarian aid comprising essential medicines and equipment to Ukraine.
  • This was done as part of its ongoing effort to help the European nation to mitigate the economic hardships it is facing due to the war with Russia.
  • On March 1 , 2022 , India had sent the first tranche of humanitarian assistance to Ukraine via Poland.
