National Events:

AIIMS:

  • PM Narendra Modi has inaugurated the All India Institute of Medical Sciences ( AIIMS ) at Kothipura in Bilaspur district of Himachal Pradesh.
  • Spread over an area of about 247 acres , this Rs 1,471 cr 750 – bedded institute will provide super specialty medical treatment to the people of the region.
  • He also inaugurated 140 crore Government Hydro Engineering College at Bandla in Bilaspur.

 

Dinesh Kumar Sharma:

  • The government has appointed Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma of the Delhi High Court as the Presiding officer the Unlawful Activities ( Prevention ) Tribunal.
  • He has been appointed to review the ban on the Popular Front of India ( PFI ) and its associates. The centre has recently banned PFI for five years , after seizing incriminating documents.

 

Mohit Bhatia:

  • Bank of India Investment Managers Private Ltd has announced that it has appointed Mohit Bhatia as its chief executive officer , effective 4 October , 2022.
  • His last assignment was with Canara Robeco Asset Management Company Ltd. as head – sales and marketing.
  • Bank of India Investment Managers Private Ltd is a wholly – owned subsidiary of Bank of India.

 

Sugar:

  • India has emerged as the world’s largest producer and consumer of sugar and its second – largest exporter.
  • In sugar season ( Oct – Sept ) 2021-22 , a record of over 5,000 lakh metric tons ( LMT ) of sugarcane was produced in the country.
  • Record highest sugar exports of over 109 lakh metric ton has also been registered. These exports earned foreign currency of about Rs 40,000 crore for the country.

 

National Wildlife Week : 2nd to 8th October:

  • India observes National Wildlife Week from October 2 to October 8 every year in an effort to protect and preserve wildlife.
  • In the year 2022 , the 68th edition of the National Wildlife Week is being celebrated.
  • The idea of a ‘ National Wildlife Week ‘ was proposed by the Indian Board of Wildlife in 1952 while the first ‘ Wildlife Week ‘ was commemorated in 1957.

 

RAVV:

  • Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on 4th Oct 2022 inaugurated the country’s second Rashtriya Adarsh Veda Vidyalaya ( RAVV ) in Puri , Odisha.
  • Objective of RAAV or National Model Vedic School : to spread knowledge of the Vedas among people & to promote the Sanskrit language as well.
  • Maharishi Sandipani Rashtriya Ved Vidya Pratishthan is the first such school in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain.

 

’Insure India’:

  • HDFC Life Insurance Company has launched the ‘ Insure India ‘ campaign with an aim to educate Indians on the benefits of life insurance as a product category.
  • As part of this campaign , the Company will host chat shows , hold on – ground activities & webinars , to engage with consumers both directly as well as indirectly through its wide network of distributors. HDFC Life CEO : Vibha Padalkar.

 

Aatmanirbhar Gujrat Scheme:

  • In Gujarat , the state government has announced Aatmanirbhar Gujrat Scheme for Assistance To Industries at Gandhinagar on 5 October 2022.
  • The scheme is expected to attract a proposed investment of nearly 12.50 lakh crore rupees.
  • 9 sectors including green energy ecosystem , sustainability and mobility have been recognized as thrust manufacturing sectors in line with Aatmanirbhar Bharat.

 

Rs.222 crore:

  • NABARD has sanctioned Rs 222 crore to strengthen school infrastructure in rural schools in Punjab.
  • It has sanctioned the money from the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund ( RIDF ) for the construction of 2,328 additional classrooms , 762 labs , and 648 playgrounds in rural schools in all 23 districts.
  • The project aims to benefit a total of 3.80 lakh students in more than 3,500 villages.

 

Industrial Parks and Logistics Policy:

  • The Jharkhand Government has approved the Jharkhand Industrial Parks and Logistics Policy of 2022.
  • Effective for the next five years , the policy is aimed at boosting the industrial infrastructure in Jharkhand by attracting private companies to set up industrial parks by providing financial subsidies up to Rs 75 crore.

PNB:

  • Punjab National Bank ( PNB ) announced that it has made banking services available to both clients and non – customers via WhatsApp.
  • Customers must save the official PNB WhatsApp number ( 919264092640 ) and start a conversation by texting a hello or hi to this number in order to enable the banking feature on WhatsApp. PNB CEO : Atul Kumar Goel. WhatsApp CEO : Will Cathcart.

 

Tamil Nadu Events:

Mammallapuram:

  • Mamallapuram , a Tamil Nadu town classified as a UNESCO world heritage site , has beaten the Taj Mahal in the number of foreign visitors , according to the Indian Tourism Statistics 2022.
  • As per the report , 1,44,984 foreign visitors came to Mamallapuram in 2021-22 .Taj Mahal occupied the second spot with 38,922 foreign visitors. 6 of the top 10 monuments on the list are in Tamil Nadu.

 

International Events:

Crew-5:

  • SpaceX launched four people to the International Space Station from Florida on 5 October 2022. Known as Crew – 5 , the mission for NASA will bring the group up to the ISS for a six – month stay in orbit.
  • The mission is SpaceX’s fifth operational crew launch for NASA to date , and the company’s eighth human spaceflight in just over two years.

 

Mars:

  • An international team of researchers has found new evidence for the possible existence of liquid water beneath the south polar ice cap of Mars. The results were published in the journal Nature Astronomy.
  • The researchers , led by the University of Cambridge with involvement from the University of Sheffield , used spacecraft laser – altimeter measurements to identify subtle patterns in its height.

 

Rupay debit card:

  • National Payments Corporation of India and Central Bank of Oman have signed a oric MoU to launch the Rupay debit card in Oman.
  • India’s Minister of State for External Affairs V. Muraleedharan witnessed the signing of the MoU, He also inaugurated a newly designed library with an aim to provide knowledge resources to the readers.

 

WTO:

  • The World Trade Organization has forecast a slowdown in global trade growth. The Geneva – based trade body has informed that merchandise trade would increase by 3.5 per cent in 2022 , up from its April estimate of three per cent.
  • However , for 2023 , it sees trade growth of just 1 per cent , compared with a previous forecast of 3.4 per cent.

 

World Cerebral Palsy Day : 6th October:

  • World Cerebral Palsy Day ( WCPD ) is observed on 6th October every year & it was started by the Cerebral Palsy Alliance in 2012.
  • Aim : to draw worldwide attention to cerebral palsy and find ways to help this condition.
  • Cerebral palsy refers to a group of neurological disorders that appear in infancy or early childhood and permanently affect body movement and muscle coordination.

 

Nobel Prize in Chemistry:

  • The 2022 Nobel Prize in Chemistry has been jointly awarded to Carolyn Bertozzi , Morton Meldal & Barry Sharpless for their work on snipping molecules together , known as ‘ click chemistry ‘.
  • Their work is used to explore cells & track biological processes and can be applied in cancer treatment drugs. Sharpless also won a Nobel Prize in 2001 for his work on chirally catalysed oxidation reactions.
