National Events:

International conference:

  • A two – day International conference on ” Existing Climate Change Scenario and its Arising Risks ” was held on 21-22 Oct 2022 in J & K.
  • It was organized by Mahima Research Foundation in conjunction with the Social Welfare Dept and Sher – e – Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology , Jammu. More than 300 delegates comprising professionals & researchers attended the conference.

 

‘ Sitrang ‘:

  • Cyclone ‘ Sitrang ‘ lay centered about 230 km of Sagar Island in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district , and made a landfall on Bangladesh coast. It has been named by Thailand.
  • The latest cyclonic storm has already battered several coastal regions of Bengal , and even brought downpour in Assam. Many districts in Odisha , Bengal and the northeastern states have been put on alert.

 

Dakar International Forum on Peace and Security in Africa:

  • Minister of State for External Affairs V. Muraleedharan participated at the opening session of ‘ Dakar International Forum on Peace and Security in Africa ‘ in Senegal in October 2022.
  • The event was inaugurated by President of Senegal , Macky Sall in Dakar. This is the first time that India is participating in the forum at a Ministerial level.

 

Jakson Group:

  • Energy and infrastructure company Jakson Group has signed a pact with the Rajasthan government.
  • It will set up a green hydrogen and green ammonia project in the state at an investment of 22,400 crores.
  • It will set up a 3,65,000 tons per annum green hydrogen and green ammonia plant along with an integrated hybrid renewable power complex in phases.

 

” Green ” steel:

  • Tata Steel’s Dutch arm plans to supply Ford plants in Europe with ” green ” steel after 2030 , under a preliminary agreement reached by the two companies on 24 October.
  • Tata will start producing green steel – or steel made without using fossil fuels – in 2030 at its plant in Ijmuiden , Netherlands.

 

Pather Panchali:

  • Legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray’s film ” Pather Panchali ” has been declared the best Indian film of all time by International Federation of Film Critics ( FIPRESCI ).
  • It has received the number one slot in the top ten films in the history of Indian cinema list , which was declared after a poll conducted by the India chapter of FIPRESCI. This film was release in 1955.

 

National Ayurveda Day:

  • National Ayurveda Day is observed on the occasion of Dhanwantari Jayanti ( Dhanteras ) every year since 2016. The 7th National Ayurveda day was celebrated on 23rd October.
  • The aim of the day is to raise awareness about the value of Ayurveda in improving health and daily life.
  • The Ministry of AYUSH celebrates Ayurveda Day every year. 2022 Theme : ” Har Din Har Ghar Ayurveda “.

 

Air quality:

  • The air quality level in Delhi was recorded in the ‘ Very Poor ‘ category in October 2022.
  • According to Central Pollution Control Board , the Air Quality Index stood at 326. An AQI between 0 to 50 is considered ‘ good ‘ , 51 to 100 ‘ satisfactory ‘ , 101 to 200 ‘ moderate ‘ , and 201 to 300 is considered ‘ poor’.

 

SJVN:

  • Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam ( SJVN ) has announced the commissioning of 75 MW Solar Power Projects in Parasan Solar Park , located at Tehsil Kalpi of Uttar Pradesh.
  • It will be commissioned by the end of October. The project will generate 168.34 MU in the first year and the estimated cumulative energy generation over a period of 25 years will be 3919 MU. SJVN HQ : Shimla. Founded : 1988.

 

International Events:

Rishi Sunak:

  • Former British Finance Minister Rishi Sunak is set to become Britain’s next Prime Minister after Penny Mordaunt dropped out of the Conservative party leadership race.
  • 42 – year – old Sunak will become the first British Prime Minister of Indian origin. Sunak becomes Britain’s third Prime Minister in less than two months after Boris Johnson and Liz Truss resigned from their posts.

 

FATF:

  • Financial Action Task Force ( FATF ) has added Myanmar to the list of high – risk countries , also known as ‘ Black List ‘. Myanmar has been added to the list because of its ‘ strategic deficiencies to counter money laundering & terrorist financing.
  • Myanmar is the third country to be added in this list along with North Korea and Iran. FATF HQ : Paris , France. Membership : 39. President : T Raja Kumar.

 

Sports Events:

Men’s World Team Chess Championship:

  • In Chess , teams from 12 top chess – playing nations including India , China , United States , and the Netherlands have been included in the lineup for the 2022 Men’s World Team Chess Championship in Jerusalem , Israel in November 2022.
  • After five rounds , the first four teams in each pool will advance to the quarterfinals. The final match will be played on November 25, 2022.

 

National Pencak Silat championship:

  • The 10th National Pencak Silat championship for Senior and master Men and Women was inaugurated at Sher – e – Kashmir Indoor Sports Stadium in Srinagar in October 2022.
  • The event sponsored by J & K Sports Council is being organized by the Pencak Silat Association of J & K under the banner of the Indian Pencak Silat Association.
