National Events:

Lachit Borphukan:

  • The 400th birth anniversary of Assam’s legendary war hero Lachit Borphukan will be celebrated from November 23 to 25, 2022.
  • Borphukan was a commander in the erstwhile Ahom kingdom and is known for his leadership in the 1671 battle of Saraighat that thwarted an attempt by Mughals to capture Assam.
  • The ‘ Battle of Saraighat’ was fought on the banks of Brahmaputra in Guwahati.

 

Icra Ltd:

  • India’s economic growth will likely slow down to 6.5 % in the 2nd quarter of the current fiscal (Q2FY23), according to Icra Ltd.
  • Icra has projected the GVA (gross value added) growth of the services sector at a robust 9.4 % in Q2 FY23.

 

International Film Festival of India:

  • The 53rd edition of the International Film Festival of India kicked off with a grand opening ceremony in Panaji, Goa on 20 November, 2022.
  • This edition of the film fiesta is showcasing a collection of 280 films from 79 countries. As many as 75 youths , in the age group of 18-35 , will get to attend the festival this year as special guests , as part of the ’75 Creative Minds of Tomorrow’.

 

Arun Goel:

  • Retired Punjab cadre IAS officer Arun Goel has assumed the office of Election Commissioner (EC).
  • Goel was Secretary, Union Ministry of Heavy Industries, till he took voluntary retirement on November 18, 2022.
  • The post of Election Commissioner had been vacant since May 2022 when Kumar was elevated from the post of Election Commissioner to CEC upon the retirement of Sushil Chandra.

 

Goldman Sachs:

  • Goldman Sachs in its report has slashed India’s Gross domestic product (GDP) to 5.9 % in calendar year 2023 from an estimated 6.9 % in 2022. India’s gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 8.7 % in 2021-22.
  • The firm expects headline retail inflation to ease to 6.1 % in 2023 from an estimated 6.8 % this year, according to a Bloomberg report.

 

UGC:

  • University Grants Commission, UGC has finalised the framework for the four – year undergraduate programme. The rules for these courses will be shared with all universities in November 2022.
  • The Four Year Undergraduate programme will be implemented in all the 45 Central Universities and most of the state and private universities from the next academic session.

 

Golden jubilee of Manipuri cinema:

  • To mark the golden jubilee of Manipuri cinema, IFFI (International Film Festival of India) will showcase five feature and five non – feature films, curated by Manipur State Film Society under Indian Panorama.
  • Each year April 9 is celebrated as the birth of Manipuri cinema since the first Manipuri feature film was released on April 9, 1972, named `Matamgi Manipur’, directed by Deb Kumar Bose. Manipur CM: N. Biren Singh.

 

RRIUM:

  • The Union Minister of Ayush Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the Regional Research Institute of nani Medicin (RRIUM) in Silchar on 20 November 2022. The newly opened institute is the first such center in the Northeast on Unani medicine.
  • The institute will provide treatment for the diseases particularly on Gastro – intestinal disorders and Respiratory disorders.

 

Federal Bank & JCB India:

  • Federal Bank on 19 November 2022 tied up with JCB India to finance the prospective buyers of heavy construction equipment.
  • Under the arrangement, Federal Bank is the preferred finance partner of the construction equipment manufacturer, where JCB’s customers can avail of loans from the lender at competitive interest rates. Federal Bank CEO: Shyam Srinivasan.

 

Nadu – Nedu:

  • Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said on November 18 that the government welfare hostels in the state will be renovated and modernized at a cost of Rs 3365 crore under the Nadu – Nedu program.
  • The modernization works would start with an allocation of Rs 1500 crore in the first phase of the Nadu – Nedu Program.

 

Karnataka State Board for Wildlife:

  • Actor Darshan Thoogudeepa and Law Minister J C Madhuswamy have been made members of the Karnataka State Board for Wildlife. Darshna’s appointment is in recognition of his contribution to wildlife conservation.
  • He was the brand ambassador for the Zoo Authority of Karnataka. He will be part of the board till October 23, 2023 or the next order.

 

International Events:

GPAI:

  • India took over the Chair of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence, GPAI from France on November 21, 2022. India joined the GPAI in 2020 as a founding member.
  • GPAI is an international initiative to support responsible and human – centric development and the use of Artificial Intelligence.
  • It is a congregation of 25 member countries, including the US, UK, European Union, and more.

 

21st World Congress of Accountants:

  • Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal addressed the 21st World Congress of Accountants in Mumbai on November 20 2022.
  • For the first time in the 118 years of its history, the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) hosted the world congress of accountants (WCOA).
  • The WCOA is held once in four years. The first meeting was held in the US city of St Louis in 1904.

 

World Fisheries Day: 21 November:

  • World Fisheries Day is celebrated on 21st November every year to demonstrate solidarity with all fish folk, fish farmers and concerned stakeholders throughout the world.
  • The event aims to draw attention to overfishing, habitat destruction and other serious threats to the sustainability of our marine and freshwater resources. It was started in 1997.

 

International Men’s Day: 19th November:

  • International Men’s Day is a global holiday celebrated annually on November 19 to recognize and celebrate the cultural, political, and socioeconomic achievements of men. The main theme of International Men’s Day is to promote men’s and boy’s health.
  • The three themes of 2022 are helping men and boys, celebrating “mate ship”, and celebrating men leading by example.

 

Final Report:

  • The 27th Conference of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC) member states was held in Sharm Al-Sheikh, Egypt for the past two weeks. A meeting was held to prepare the final report of the conference.
  • The UN Climate Change Conference has approved the creation of a climate compensation fund to help developing countries and low-income countries face climate change-related disasters and prevent climate change.
  • Accordingly, funds from developed countries will be given to countries affected by climate change. The funds will also be used for climate change mitigation projects.

 

Sports Events:

ATP Finals title:

  • Novak Djokovic defeated Norway’s Casper Ruud to collect sixth ATP Finals title in Turin, Italy in November 2022.
  • This was Djokovic’s first title at the event since 2015. The 35 – year – old Djokovic is the oldest player to win the title.

 

FIFA World Cup 2022:

  • The opening ceremony of the FIFA World Cup 2022 was held at the Al Bayt Stadium, Al Khor in Qatar on 20 November 2022. The first match was held between Qatar and Ecuador.
  • The world cup is being held from 21 November to 18 December 2022. 32 teams will compete across 64 matches in the 22nd edition of the World Cup.

 

Carlos Alcaraz:

  • Carlos Alcaraz has become the youngest year – end ATP World Number 1, making him the first teenager to achieve this feat.
  • Alcaraz clinched his first – ever ATP Masters 1000 title in Miami.
