National Events:

GST:

  • The gross GST revenue collected in the month of October 2022 was at 1,51,718 crore rupees , which is the second – highest monthly collection till date.
  • It is for the second time the gross GST collection has crossed Rs.1.50 lakh crore mark in 2022 , next only to the collection in April 2022.
  • CGST collection was at 26,039 crore rupees , SGST at 33,396 crore rupees whereas the IGST at 81,778 cr.

 

Invest Karnataka:

  • PM Modi addressed the inaugural function of Invest Karnataka , the Global Investors Meet , on 2 November 2022.
  • The three – day programme is being held from 2 to 4 November in Bengaluru , would witness more than 80 speaker sessions.
  • The country sessions would each be hosted by the partner countries – France , Germany , Netherlands , South Korea , Japan , and Australia.

 

Mangarh Dham:

  • PM Narendra Modi on 1st Nov 2022 declared Mangarh Dham in Rajasthan a national monument.
  • The dham , a memorial for around 1,500 tribals massacred by the British army in 1913 , is located in the Banswara district on the Gujarat – Rajasthan border , a region with a large tribal population.
  • The gathering of tribals in 1913 in Mangarh against the British was led by social reformer Govind Guru.

 

Zojila Day:

  • Zojila Day was commemorated at Zojila War Memorial near Drass on November 1 , 2022. It was commemorated to celebrate the gallant action by Indian troops in ‘ Operation Bison ‘ in 1948 which was launched on the icy heights of Zojila pass , the gateway to Ladakh.
  • This battle was also historic for the reason that tanks were used for the first time at such heights.

 

Kerala government:

  • The Kerala government has announced rolling back its decision to enhance the retirement age of employees of all state PSUs to 60 years.
  • The order was issued based on the recommendations of an expert committee , which conducted a comprehensive study on the formulation of a common framework for pay / wage structure of PSUs in the state.

 

SKOCH 2022:

  • West Bengal govt’s Lakshmir Bhandar scheme has bagged the 2022 SKOCH award in the women & child development category.
  • West Bengal had launched the scheme in 2021 to provide financial support to a woman head of a family in the age group of 25-60 years.
  • Under the scheme , Rs 500 & Rs 1,000 per month are given to women of the General & SC / ST categories respectively. SKOCH Award instituted : 2003.

 

Bharatiya Basha Diwas:

  • The University Grants Commission ( UGC ) has directed all higher education institutions to observe ‘ Bharatiya Bhasha Diwas ‘ on Dec 11 every year.
  • In a notice , the UGC said that the day will be observed to create ” language harmony ” and develop a conducive environment for learning Indian languages.
  • Dec 11 is also the birth anniversary of poet Subramania Bharati , a pioneer of modern Tamil poetry.

 

November 1:

  • In India , 7 states ( Andhra Pradesh , Haryana , Chhattisgarh , Kerala , Karnataka , Punjab & Madhya Pradesh ) and 2 Union Territories ( Lakshadweep & Puducherry ) celebrate their Foundation Day on November 1 every year.
  • Earlier , Tamil Nadu also used to celebrate its foundation day on November 1 but the state government in 2021 announced that ‘ Tamil Nadu Formation Day ‘ will be celebrated on July 18 onwards.

 

Giridhar Aramane:

  • Giridhar Aramane , a 1988 – batch IAS officer of Andhra Pradesh cadre , assumed charge as the Defence Secretary on 1st November 2022. He was earlier Additional Secretary in the Cabinet Secretariat.
  • The Defence Secretary is the administrative head of the Ministry of Defence. Also , Amrit Lal Meena , a 1989 – Bihar Cadre IAS officer , took over the charge of Secretary in Coal Ministry on 1st November.

 

Liberation Day:

  • The Union Territory of Puducherry celebrated its Liberation Day on 1 November 2022. It was on 1st November 1954 the union territory was liberated from French colonialism following a referendum in which all elected members from Puducherry voted against the French and preferred to join India.
  • Later the Indian government effected the de – jure transferring the territory to its union on 16 Aug 1962.

 

Ladakh Police:

  • Ladakh Police celebrated its 3rd Raising Day on 1 November 2022 in Leh. Ladakh Police , the youngest police force in India , was formed in 2020 after the formation of UT Ladakh. Gallantry awards were presented to the family members of Sub Inspectors Stanzin Nurbu , Stanzin Otsal. Julley Mobile App , aimed to facilitate the tourists with several features to help the visitors , was also launched.

 

‘ Kerala Puraskarangal ‘:

  • The Kerala government has announced its first ‘ Kerala Puraskarangal ‘ modelled on the Centre’s civilian honours , Padma Awards.
  • Renowned writer MT Vasudevan Nair has been announced as the recipient of the first Kerala Jyothi award , the highest of the three honours instituted by the State.
  • Kerala Prabha , the second – highest honour , will be given to Mammootty , T Madhava Menon & Omchery NN Pillai.

 

Ranipur Tiger Reserve:

  • Ranipur Tiger Reserve in Uttar Pradesh has become the 53rd tiger reserve in India. The reserve will span across 529.89 square km , with a 299.58 sq km buffer zone and 230 sq km core area.
  • As of right now , the Ranipur Wildlife Sanctuary in Chitrakoot district has no tigers of its own. Apart from Ranipur , UP has three tiger reserves – Dudhwa , Pilibhit and Amangarh.

 

Integrated Aqua Park:

  • The Central Government has approved the establishment of India’s first – ever ‘ Integrated Aqua Park ‘ at Tarin ( Ziro ) in Subansiri District of Arunachal Pradesh.
  • This project is sanctioned under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana ( PMMSY ) , with an overall cost of Rs 50 Crores.
  • PMMSY ( launched in 2019 ) aims to establish a robust fisheries management framework in the country.

 

International Events:

Sharjah International Book:

  • Sheikh Sultan Al Qasimi , Ruler of Sharjah city of UAE , on 1st Nov 2022 inaugurated the 41st Sharjah International Book Fair.
  • It is being organised by the Sharjah Book Authority & will be held from Nov 2-13 , 2022 in Sharjah , UAE.
  • The theme of the 2022 edition is ‘ Spread the Word ‘ & Italy is the Guest of Honor. Publications Division of Ministry of I & B , is participating from Indian side.

 

Friends of Liberation War:

  • Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina conferred the prestigious ‘ Friends of Liberation War ‘ honour on former US Senator Edward M Kennedy posthumously on 1 Nov 2022 in Dhaka. He has been conferred for his contribution to the liberation of Bangladesh.
  • Kennedy took several steps to stop US military and economic aid to Pakistan till the end of the war. Bangladesh Liberation War: Mar 1971 – Dec 1971.

 

Sports Events:

Track Asia Cup 2022:

  • Kerala to host Track Asia Cup 2022 Kerala is all set to host the Track Asia Cup – 2022 cycling tournament, one of the biggest cycling events , from November 25 to 28 , 2022.
  • Around 200 cyclists from over 25 countries in Asia will take part in the event , which is being conducted outside Delhi for the first time.
  • Track Asia cup is also the selection of Asian countries for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
