National Events:

BSNL & TCS:

  • Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) received a nod from Central Government to go ahead with Rs 26,821 crore deal with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) paving its way to launch 4G services in India.
  • TCS is ready to set up the 4G lines and maintain the network for nine years. BSNL will give Rs 10,000 crore worth of purchase orders to TCS soon. The state-run telco will aim to launch its 4G services by December 2022 or January 2023.

 

DAY-NRLM:

  • The Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) has signed an MoU with Veddis Foundation to support the setting up of effective governance systems under the DAY-NRLM.
  • The DAY-NRLM stands for Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihood Mission. The partnership with MoRD and Veddis Foundation for three years is non-financial in nature.

 

Millet Day:

  • The state government of Odisha is observing 10th November 2022 as ‘Millet Day’ in the state. The day is chosen according to the Hindu calendar, the 1st thursday of margasira month.
  • The primary aim of celebrating the day is to promote millets as a highly nutritive and eco-friendly food product.
  • The initiative started in 7 districts, till now the mission has reached 19 districts of Odisha so far. Besides, the government aims to promote the millet mission across 30 districts of Odisha.

 

CM Naveen Patnaik:

  • Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced that the Odisha government aims to make Odisha slum-free by the end of 2023.
  • The CM of Odisha has launched a survey using drones to facilitate a process to provide land deeds to slum-dwellers in five municipal areas across Odisha.
  • The land survey was taken in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Berhampur, Rourkela, and Sambalpur civic body areas under the state government’s ‘Jaga Mission program.

 

National Legal Services Day:

  • National Legal Services Day is marked every year on 9th November to celebrate the commencement of the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987 which came into force on this very day in 1995.
  • This day was established with a mandate to offer support and help to weaker sections of society including Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes, women, disabled persons, natural calamities victims, and human trafficking victims.
  • National Legal Services Day is crucial in raising public knowledge about various provisions of the Legal Services Authorities Act as well as litigants’ rights.
  • The Day is commemorated to educate citizens about the various aspects of the Legal Services Authorities Act and litigants’ rights. Each jurisdiction arranges legal help camps, Lok adalats, and legal aid programmes on this day.

 

 ‘Child Rights: Contemporary Challenges in Telangana’:

  • The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights which is mandated to spread child rights literacy held a one day Orientation cum Sensitization programme on ‘Child Rights: Contemporary Challenges in Telangana’ in Hyderabad, which was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Governor of Telangana and Governor of Puducherry, Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan.

 

Solar Power generation:

  • India has saved around $4.2 billion in fuel costs through solar power generation in the first half of 2022.
  • Along with this, India has saved about 19.4 million tonnes of coal.
  • The Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air, and the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis found that the top 10 economies with solar capacity are now within Asia. The five countries include India, China, South Korea, Vietnam, and Japan.

 

International Events:

World Science Day for Peace and Development:

  • World Science Day for Peace and Development was proclaimed by the UN Educational, Scientific and UNESCO in 2001 under the UNESCO 31 C/Resolution 20. It is celebrated every year on November 10, around the globe, marking the significance of science in society.
  • The day highlights the significant role of science in society and the need to engage the wider public in debates on emerging scientific issues. It also underlines the importance and relevance of science in our daily lives.

 

International Week of Science and Peace:

  • November 9 to November 14 is observed as the International Week of Science and Peace every year around the globe.
  • This week is an initiative taken by the United Nations (UN), hoping to make people contribute towards the encouragement and promotion of peace across the globe.
  • During this week, people inspire and promote peace in their countries and also develop advanced technology for better living. Various events and activities are organized worldwide, and people participate internationally.

 

Sports Events:

England-Champions:

  • England were crowned the champions after they defeated Pakistan by 5 wickets in the final at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), Australia.
  • England also emulated West Indies to become only the second team in the history of the competition to lift two titles in the T20 World Cup.
