National Events:

Clothing cameras:

  • Clothing cameras for train ticket examiners have been introduced in Mumbai for the first time.
  • The railway administration said the system was introduced following the recent incident of suspension of a ticket inspector misbehaving with a woman passenger and frequent complaints of ticket inspectors charging extra.
  • The railway administration also said that these cameras can record footage for 20 hours.

 

‘Buland Bharat’:

  • ‘Buland Bharat’ is an integrated training exercise taking place at the longest high-altitude Artillery Ranges in the eastern theatre which were recently brought into operation.
  • This exercise saw the Artillery and Infantry effectively using their surveillance and firepower abilities, working closely with Special Forces, Aviation, and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), who were deployed in the West Kameng and Tawang districts of Arunachal Pradesh.

 

Recent violence:

  • The recent violence in Manipur stems from disputes over land and special privileges, which have created divisions between religious and ethnic communities in the state.
  • The protests by tribals against the Meitei community have resulted in 54 deaths, including a mob killing of an Indian Revenue Services officer and the shooting of a police commando in his village.
  • Even an MLA from the ruling BJP, who belonged to the Kuki tribal community, was attacked by the protestors.

 

RBI:

  • The RBI has asked all banks, financial institutions to ensure all wire transfers to contain complete information about the originator and beneficiary to prevent them from being used as a channel for money laundering, terrorist financing platforms.
  • The Reserve Bank of India has recently updated its instructions in the Master Direction on Know Your Customer (KYC).

Tamil Nadu Events:

Medical park:

  • Chief Minister Stalin has announced that an international standard medical park is going to be set up at Chipkot Technology Complex, Tindivanam, Villupuram district at an estimated cost of 155 crore rupees.
  • This medical park is to be built on an area of 111 acres by the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Department.

 

International Events:

International No Diet Day:

  • International No Diet Day is celebrated every year on May 6 to reject societal pressures and unrealistic beauty standards.
  • It also aims to promote healthy living and habits and self-love rather than dieting.

 

World Athletics Day:

  • World Athletics Day, established by the International Amateur Athletic Federation, is celebrated on May 7th each year.
  • The aim of this day is to promote sports and exercise as a means of preventing diseases and maintaining good health.
  • The focus is on encouraging people to participate in athletics and other fitness activities to keep themselves healthy.

 

Sports Events:

Babar Azam:

  • Pakistan skipper Babar Azam has become the fastest player to reach 5000 runs in the ODI format. He crossed the 5000 run-mark in 97 innings.
  • Babar broke Hashim Amla’s record of scoring 5000 runs in 101 innings. Azam has been the number-one batter on the International Cricket Council’s rankings for ODIs for the last two years.
