National Events:

Deoghar Airport:

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Deoghar airport in Jharkhand on 12 July 2022 . It has been constructed at a cost of Rs 401 crore . He also inaugurated the revamped Baba Baidyanathdham temple area under Prasad scheme of Ministry of Tourism .
  • He also inaugurated 13 development projects and laid foundation stones for 12 development schemes worth over 16000 crore Rupees .

 

First elevated urban expressway in India:

  • Dwarka Expressway is being developed as the first elevated urban expressway in India . The expressway will connect Dwarka in Delhi to Gurugram in Haryana . It is being developed at a total cost of 9,000 crore rupees with a total length of 29 km .
  • It is also popularly known as the Northern Peripheral Road .It will open to traffic in 2023 and relieve congestion on the Delhi – Gurugram Expressway .

 

CSMT:

  • The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus ( CSMT ) in Mumbai has become the 1st railway station in India to be equipped with augmented reality screens .
  • This technology will allow passengers at the station to get a real – time digitised timetable with a dedicated scrolling screen & railway information for an engaging experience . This project is aimed at generating revenue for the Central Railway .

 

GSL:

  • The Public Enterprises Selection Board ( PESB ) has appointed Brajesh Kumar Upadhyay as Chairman & Managing Director ( CMD ) of Goa Shipyard Limited ( GSL ) .Upadhyay is currently serving as Director ( Operations ) in the GSL .
  • He joined GSL as a trainee manager in 1991 . GSL is a Miniratna Public sector undertaking ( PSU ) under the Ministry of Defence . Goa Shipyard Limited founded in – 1957.

 

Logo of Prasar Bharati:

  • Information and Broadcasting ( I & B ) secretary Apurva Chandra on 11 July 2022 unveiled the new logo of the country’s Public Service Broadcaster , ‘ Prasar Bharati ‘ .
  • In the new logo , the map of India signifies the service of trust , security and perfection to the nation . Its blue colour represents both sky and sea which is associated with freedom & inspiration . Prasar Bharati CEO – Mayank Agrawal.

 

Meena Hemchandra:

  • Reserve Bank of India has approved the appointment of former RBI executive Meena Hemchandra as part – time Chairman of Karur Vysya Bank for three years .
  • In May 2022 , the bank had recommended Hemchandra’s candidature for the position of non – executive independent ( part – time ) chairperson of the bank to the RBI for approval . Hemchandra was the Executive Director of RBI from June 2015 to Nov 2017 .

 

Father of the internet:

  • Brijendra K Syngal , former Chairman of Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd ( VSNL ) , passed away on 9 July 2022 at the age of 82 . He is referred to as the ‘ father of the internet in India . Syngal left satellite communications company Inmarsat to take charge of VSNL in 1991 .
  • Under his watch , VSNL rolled out India’s internet service and launched its then biggest global depository receipt issue .

 

Pradhan Mantri National Apprenticeship Mela:

  • The Pradhan Mantri National Apprenticeship Mela began on July 11 , 2022 . It was organised by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship , as part of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Skill India Mission .
  • It featured 36 sectors and more than 1000 companies and 500 distinct sorts of trades . The ministry hosted the event across 200 plus locations .

 

Helicopter Engines:

  • Hindustan Aeronautics ( HAL ) and Safran Helicopter Engines have signed an MoU to develop helicopter engines .
  • Under this agreement , both the companies will establish a new aero – engine company in India , dedicated to the development , production , sales & support of helicopter engines .
  • One of its main objectives will be to meet the requirements of HAL and Ministry of Defence’s future helicopters .

 

Meity & Star Health and Allied Insurance Co. Ltd:

  • Star Health and Allied Insurance Co. Ltd. has partnered with Common Services Centres ( CSC ) , under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology ( Meity ) . It will provide over 5 lakh CSCs access to a select range of Star Health insurance products .
  • These products have been designed to meet the needs of rural customers across the tier – II , tier – III cities , and rural markets pan India .

 

Rupee settlement system:

  • The Reserve Bank of India ( RBI ) on 11 July 2022 unveiled a rupee settlement system for international trade . It aims to promote growth of global trade with emphasis on exports from India & to support the increasing interest of global trading community in Indian Rupee .
  • This new mechanism will enable Indian exporters to receive advance payment against exports from overseas importers in rupees .

 

Metaverse – based virtual lounge – Uni – verse:

  • Union Bank of India on 8 July 2022 launched a Metaverse – based virtual lounge – Uni – verse , where it will showcase its products to customers virtually .
  • It is the first Indian bank to open a virtual shop for publicity . In the initial phase , Uni – verse will host the bank’s product information and videos .
  • Union Bank has launched this virtual lounge initiative in partnership with Tech Mahindra .

 

International Events:

CAS:

  • The Chinese Academy of Sciences ( CAS ) has initiated a global name collection for the country’s newest solar observatory . It will be launched into a sun – synchronous orbit in October 2022 .
  • The 888 – kilogram observatory has a half – tonne precursor , ” Xihe , ” a Chinese H – alpha Solar Explorer ( CHASE ) , named after the sun goddess in ancient Chinese mythology .

 

I2U2:

  • PM Narendra Modi will participate in the first I2U2 ( India – Israel – UAE – USA ) Leaders ‘ Virtual Summit on 14 July 2022 . PM of Israel Yair Lapid , President of the UAE Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and President of the USA Joseph R. Biden will also participate in it .
  • The I2U2 Grouping was conceptualized during the meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the four countries held on 18th October 2021 .

 

NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope:

  • The first full – color image from NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope was released on 11 July 2022 . It provides glimpses of what the early Universe looked like . It is the clearest image to date of the early universe , going back 13 billion years .
  • The image showed thousands of galaxies and some of the faintest objects observed . It was captured by the James Webb Space Telescope .

 

International Malala Day : 12 July:

  • The International Malala Day is celebrated on 12 July on the occasion of young activist Malala Yousafzai’s birthday .
  • On 12 July 2013 , the 16 – year – old Pakistani activist delivered a moving speech at the headquarters of United Nations .
  • At the age of 17 years , Yousufzai was the youngest recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize since it came into existence in 1901 .

 

Sports Events:

Asian U – 20 Wrestling Championships:

  • India bagged 22 medals including four gold in the Asian U – 20 Wrestling Championships in Manama , Bahrain . Besides the four gold medals , India claimed nine silver and nine bronze medals in the event .
  • Among the 22 medals , the women’s team won 10 medals including 3 gold through Priyanka , Arju and Antrim . Freestyle wrestler Sujeet won the fourth gold medal for India in the 65kg weight class .

 

World Masters Athletics Championships:

  • 94 – year – old Bhagwani Devi Dagar on 10 July 2022 won the gold medal in the 100m sprint at the 2022 World Masters Athletics Championships held in Finland . She completed the 100m distance in 24.74 seconds .
  • World Masters Athletics Championships is an event for athletics ( track and field ) for athletes aged 35 years and over .
