National Events:

GST:

  • Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections for the month of November 2022 stood at Rs 1,45,867 crore, according to the data shared by finance ministry.
  • The revenue for the month of November are 11% higher than the GST revenue in the same month last year, which itself was Rs 1,31,526 crore.
  • This is the ninth straight month when collections from GST has remained above Rs 1.40 lakh crore.

 

National Awards for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities:

  • On the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the President of India Mrs. Draupadi Murmu presented the National Awards for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities for 2021 and 2022 in New Delhi on December 3, 2022.
  • National Awards for 2021 were presented to 25 individuals, organizations and institutions, National Awards for 2022 were presented to 29 individuals, organizations and awarded to organizations for their outstanding achievements and work towards the empowerment of persons with disabilities.

 

NADA:

  • India’s National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) has developed an app to spread awareness and address queries among athletes to help them find out if any drug prescribed to them contains banned substances.
  • Ritu Sain, Director General and CEO of the National Anti-Doping Agency of India, unveiled the app during the Inclusion Conference in New Delhi.

 

Green electricity corridor:

  • The central government is planning to build a green electricity corridor to distribute 20,000 megawatts of wind power and solar power between several states across the country.
  • In relation to providing loans for the green electricity corridor, at the head office of the Chennai Electricity Board, K.F.W. Bank and the MoU was signed between the officials of the Power Board.
  • In the first phase, this project is to be implemented in seven states including Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Karnataka. For this project, 338 crore rupees will be provided by KFW Bank and 237 crore rupees by the central government; The rest has been contracted as own funds of the power board.

 

Lawyers’ Day:

  • Lawyers’ Day in India is celebrated on 3rd December by the legal community. It is observed to celebrate the birth anniversary of Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India and a great lawyer.

 

NSC:

  • Government of India had appointed Rajeeva Laxman Karandikar, Professor Emeritus at Chennai Mathematical Institute (CMI), as the part-time chairperson of the National Statistical Commission (NSC) of India for a period of three years.
  • He will take up this role as an additional responsibility while continuing as Professor Emeritus at CMI.
  • He joined CMI as a visiting professor in 2010, and officiated as the Director of CMI from January 2011 to April 2021.

 

Indian Navy:

  • Navy Day in India is observed annually on December 4 to recognise the contributions and accomplishments of Indian Naval forces.
  • The Indian Navy is a three-dimensional force that protects our country’s interests above, on, and beneath the ocean’s surface.
  • Its main goal is to improve its position in the Indian Ocean Zone. Every year, various events are held on this day. Now this year (2022) Navy Day celebrations are being held for the first time in Visakhapatnam.

 

STEM:

  • Three Indian-origin women are among 60 scientists, technologists, engineers, and mathematicians who have been selected as Australia’s Superstars of STEM.
  • This initiative aims to smash society’s gender assumptions about scientists and increase the public visibility of females and non-binary people.
  • This year among those recognised as Superstars of STEM include three Indian-origin women: Neelima Kadiyala, Dr Ana Baburamani, and Dr Indrani Mukherjee. Female scientists of Sri Lankan descent have also been chosen for distinction, in addition to Indians.

 

Tamil Nadu Events:

Monthly pension amount for disabled persons:

  • Tamil Nadu Government has increased the monthly pension amount for disabled persons from Rs.1000 to Rs.1500.
  • This scheme will be implemented from January 2023.Mr.Stalin also launched a program to provide laptops to the differently abled. He started a mobile hospital service for the benefit of the differently abled.
  1. Asalender Reddy:
  • Retired IFS officer C. Asalender Reddy has taken over as the Chairman of the National Biodiversity Commission at Taramani, Chennai.
  • He joined the Indian Forest Department in 1986. He also served as the Secretary of the National Biodiversity Commission from 2009 to 2014.

 

Old climbing stone:

  • A 300-year-old climbing stone has been found by archaeologists on the banks of Tenpenna River in Krishnagiri district. The inscription, which is about 300 years old, shows a bull running on its forelegs.

 

International Events:

Economist Intelligence Unit’s Global Cost of Living Survey:

  • The Economist Intelligence Unit’s Global Cost of Living Survey has released a list of the world’s most expensive luxury cities to live in. Among these, New York and Singapore are the leading cities.
  • Based on the cost of daily living, luxury cities are listed. 172 cities have been taken for this study, which was carried out last August and September.
  • Among the cities with the lowest cost of living in the world, Damascus, the capital of Syria, and Tripoli, Libya, occupy the leading places.

 

TOl-1075 b:

  • NASA scientists have recently discovered an Earth-like planet, and astronomers have said that this newly discovered planet is bigger than Kepler-10c.
  • NASA has also named this planet as TOl-1075 b, and if humans go there, their weight will increase by 3 times. Also, this planet which is 10 times larger than Earth is called ‘Super Earth’.

 

Sports Events:

Vijay Hazare Trophy:

  • Saurashtra beat Maharashtra by 5 wickets in the final to win the Vijay Hazare Trophy at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
  • Saurashtra bowler Chirag Jani claimed a hat-trick in the match.
