National Events:

Indian Science Conference:

The Indian Science Conference will be held in Nagpur in January in which leading scientists, researchers and educators from India will participate. The conference will be held from 3rd January to 7th January 2023.
Nobel laureate scientists are expected to participate in this conference, which is held to encourage involvement in the field of science and technology. It will be held under the theme Science and Technology for Sustainable Development with Empowerment of Women.

Ladakh Losar festival:

Ladakh Losar festival is celebrated on December 24 to mark the Ladakh New Year. Ladakh New Year is a major socio-religious festival of Ladakh celebrated in winter.
Losar Festival is one of the major festivals of tourists in winter as the festival is often celebrated with traditional events of many ritualistic performances, songs and dances.

Good Governance Day:

Good Governance Day is observed annually on 25th December in India and commemorates the birth anniversary of Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Good Governance Day was established in 2014 as a tribute to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to create awareness about accountability in governance among the people of India. He passed away on 16 August 2018 at the age of 93.

Kolkata International Film Festival:

Kura Pokkhir Shunye Ura (The Golden Wings of Watercocks) of Bangladesh and Upon Entry of Spain won the Best Film Award at the 28th Kolkata International Film Festival.
Upon Entry is a film from Spain which is a story about the unexpected interrogation of a couple from Barcelona that has to go through after landing in New York with pre-approved immigration visas.
Kura Pokkhir Shunye Ura is a Bangladeshi Film that revolves around the journey of a peasant who is affected by the fury of nature.

Tamil Nadu Events:

‘Block Chain’:

For the first time in Tamil Nadu, ‘block chain’ technology has been introduced in the anti-trafficking department (Temple Statue Issues).
Through this website, the public can file a complaint about idol smuggling, theft and hoarding.
And one’s complaint can be viewed on the website only by the concerned authority. This information will be kept confidential.. A new website has been created for this technology.

Thalappil Pradeep:

Professor Thalappil Pradeep, Indian Scientist, India Institute of Technology, Madras received VinFuture special Prize on 20th December 2022 in Hanoi.
Prof Thalappil Pradeep was awarded for the innovation of a low-cost filtration system to remove arsenic and other heavy metals from groundwater.

International Events:

Richard R. Verma:

President Biden has appointed Indian-American Richard R. Verma as the Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources.
He has experience as the US Ambassador to India during the former US President Obama administration and has also served as Assistant Secretary of State for Legislative Affairs.

Sports Events:

Beth Mead:

Beth Mead has been awarded the BBC Sports Personality of the Year for 2022 as she was the player of the tournament and top scorer at Euro 2022. Beth Mead defeated Germany in the finals at Wembley to win England’s first major women’s football trophy.
The 27-year-old competed against Ben Stokes and Ronnie O’Sullivan for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year for 2022 award.

Forbes:

Forbes has released its annual list of the world’s highest-paid female athletes. Japan’s Naomi Osaka has topped the list.
USA’s Serena Williams is 2nd, China’s Eileen Gu is 3rd, Britain’s Emma Radukan is 4th, Poland’s Ika Switek is 5th and India’s PV Sindhu is 12th.

Hockey Men’s World Cup:

2023 Hockey Men’s World Cup series will be held in Odisha state of India from 13th to 29th January 2023. 16 countries will participate and play.
India have been placed in Group D with England, Spain and Wales in the series and Harmanpreet Singh has been appointed as the captain of the Indian team, while Amit Rohitas has been appointed as the vice-captain of the Indian team.
