National Events:

Gross collection of Direct Taxes:

  • The Gross collection of Direct Taxes has registered a growth of 25.90 % which stood at Rs 13,63,649 cr in the financial year 2022-23. The Gross collection in the corresponding period stood at Rs 10,83,150 cr.
  • The Net Direct tax collection for FY 2022-23 stood at 11,35,754 crore rupees, registering a growth of 19.81%. For the corresponding period, it was recorded at Rs 9,47,959 cr.

 

IWIS 2022:

  • The 7th edition of the India Water Impact Summit concluded on 17 December 2022. The theme of the 7th India Water Impact Summit (IWIS 2022) was ‘Restoration and Conservation of Small Rivers in a Large Basin’.
  • Experts from water, environment and administrative sectors consented to an urgent need of forming a National River Framework in the country.

 

Ladakh & G20:

  • Union Territory Ladakh to host G20 event in 2023. Ladakh is a region administered by India as a union territory.
  • Ladakh is bordered by the Tibet Autonomous Region to the east, Himachal Pradesh to the south, and the southwest corner of Xinjiang across the Karakoram Pass in the far north.
  • Ladakh was established as a union territory of India on 31 October, 2019. It is both the largest and the second least populous union territory of India.

 

Good Governance Week 2022:

  • Union Minister for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Dr.Jitendra Singh inaugurated Good Governance Week 2022 in New Delhi on 19 December 2022.
  • The Minister also launched a five day “Prashasan Gaon Ki Ore” a nationwide Campaign, to commemorate the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

 

Goa Liberation Day: 19 December:

  • The 61st anniversary of Goa Liberation was observed on 19 December 2022. It is celebrated to commemorate Goa’s liberation from 450 years of Portuguese rule.
  • As part of Operation Vijay, the Indian armed forces used the armed forces trifecta with the help of local resistance movements to eradicate European rule from the country. Goa Liberation Day-19 December, 1961.

 

IHRC:

  • The 63rd Session of the Indian Historical Records Committee (IHRC) was inaugurated in Lucknow on 18 December 2022.
  • The event was inaugurated by Uttar Pradesh Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Transport, Daya Shankar Singh.
  • The Indian Historical Records Committee (IHRC) is an all India Forum of creators, custodians and users of records which was set up in 1919.

 

Orunodoi 2.0:

  • Assam government launched a special scheme, Orunodoi 2.0 on 16 December 2022. The scheme seeks to end poverty and integrate financially disadvantaged families within the state.
  • Under the scheme10.54 lakh, beneficiaries will be given Rs 1,250 every month. Existing beneficiaries of Deen Dayal Divyangjan Achoni and Indira Miri Sarbojonin Bishwa Pension Achoni will be subsumed under this scheme.

 

Karnataka government:

  • The Karnataka government has set up an SC & ST Nomadic Communities Development Board in December 2022. It was set up for the upliftment of SC/ST communities w are among the most downtrodden.
  • This is aimed at helping 51 communities among Scheduled Castes and 23 communities among Scheduled tribes. As per the 2011 census, there are 9,91,184 people in the state belonging to nomadic communities.

 

Tamil Nadu Events:

‘Namma School’:

  • Chief Minister M.K.Stalin will launch a new project called ‘Namma School’ to improve government schools across Tamil Nadu.
  • Ex-students who have studied in government schools and are now holding high positions in various companies, ex-students who are businessmen and socially concerned companies adopt government schools through their social responsibility funds and provide basic infrastructure such as infrastructure, perimeter wall, painting, internet facilities, hygienic toilets, laboratories, libraries etc. This project will be launched to improve the facilities.

 

International Events:

SWOT:

  • The US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the French space agency Centre National d’Etudes Spatiales (CNES) jointly launched the Surface Water and Ocean Topography (SWOT) mission to track nearly all the water on Earth’s surface on 16 December 2022.
  • The SWOT mission was launched through a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California, USA.

 

Science & Engineering Indicators 2022 report:

  • India has been ranked 3rd globally in the publication of scientific papers. According to the National Science Foundation (NSF)’ s Science & Engineering Indicators 2022 report, India’s global position in scientific publications has improved from 7th in 2010 to 3rd in 2020.
  • China leads the world in the publication of the maximum number of scientific papers followed by the USA.

 

Sports Events:

Khelo India:

  • For the 1st time, the Khelo India Women’s tournament will feature Track Cycling. The tournament, scheduled to take place across 4 Zones in Dec 2022, has been sanctioned for a total Rs 1.15 crore by the Department of Sports, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
  • Khelo India aims at improving India’s sports culture at the grass-root level through organized talent identification, structured sporting competitions and infrastructure development.
  • It is a Government of India programme launched in 2017-18 under the tenure PM Narendra Modi and Sports Minister’s Vijay Goel and Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore.

 

Sargam Koushal:

  • Sargam Koushal scripted history as she won the Mrs World 2022 title after 21 years while representing India in the beauty pageant.
  • Beating contestants from 63 countries, the 32-year-old secured the crown at the event that took place in Las Vegas (USA), in December 2022.

 

Chahat Arora:

  • In Swimming, Indian swimmer Chahat Arora set a new national record in the women’s 50m breaststroke at the FINA World Swimming Championships 2022 in Australia, on 17 December 2022.
  • She clocked 32.91 seconds to top at the 25-metre short course pool and bettered her own previous record of 32.94 seconds set at the National Aquatic Championships 2022 in September 2022.

 

T20 World Cup for Blind:

  • India won the 3rd T20 World Cup for Blind, played at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Karnataka on 17 December 2022. All the three T20 World Cup for Blind have been hosted by India.
  • India defeated Bangladesh by 120 runs in the final. Governor of Karnataka Thawar Chand Gehlot presented the winners and runners up trophies. The 4th T20 World Cup for Blind will be held in Pakistan in 2023.

 

FIH Nations Cup:

  • The Indian women Hockey team won the inaugural FIH Nations Cup at Valencia, Spain on 17 December 2022. With this win, the Indian team has been promoted to the 2023-24 FIH Hockey Women’s Pro League.
  • The winning goal was scored by Gurjit Kaur of India. India finished third in the 2021-22 FIH Pro League. FIH Headquarters: Lausanne, Switzerland. FIH President: Mohammad Tayyab Ikram.
