National Events:

NCORD:

  • Union Home and Cooperation Minister Mr. Amit Shah presided over the 25th Eastern Zone Council meeting in Kolkata on 17 December 2022.
  • Chief Ministers of West Bengal and Jharkhand, Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar and Ministers from Odisha participated in the meeting.
  • In that meeting, the Union Home Minister urged the Chief Ministers to ensure the creation of NCORD (Narco Coordination Center) at the district level and said that they should act with awareness about narcotics in the country.

 

INS Mormugao:

  • The state-of-the-art warship Mormugao will be inducted into the Indian Navy by Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh at a ceremony in Mumbai on December 18, 2022.
  • The warship INS Mormugao for Indian Navy is equipped with sophisticated radar-based surface-to-air missiles.

 

India Energy Week 2023:

  • India Energy Week 2023 will be held in Bengaluru from 6-8 February 2023 under the theme “Growth, Cooperation, Transformation” under India’s G20 Chairmanship. And the opening ceremony for this event was held in Bangalore on 16 December 2022.
  • The festival is expected to create a unique opportunity to make India an engine of global economic growth and a driver of global consumption.

 

Article 223:

  • AK Singh has been appointed as the Acting Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court. Following the retirement of Justice Ravi Ranjan, Justice AK Singh has been appointed as the Acting Chief Justice.
  • Acting Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court has been appointed in exercise of the power conferred by Article 223 of the Constitution of India.

 

AIIA:

  • In a bid to promote Ayurveda across continents, the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the University of Medical Sciences, Cuba.
  • It extended the agreement with Rosenberg European Academy of Ayurveda (REAA), Germany, for five more years to take forward collaborative programmes.

 

Rafale Aircraft:

  • All 36 Rafale aircraft were delivered to India by France, with the last one touching down today (December 17).
  • After taking off from France, the aircraft received a brief mid-flight refuelling from a UAE Air Force tanker aircraft, according to the Indian Air Force.
  • India and France struck an intergovernmental agreement wherein Paris committed to pay India 60,000 crore rupees for 36 Rafale fighter jets in 2016.

 

Minority Rights Day: 18 December:

  • Every year on 18 December, Minority Rights Day is observed to promote the rights of Minority communities in India.
  • The United Nations on December 18, 1992 adopted and broadcast the Statement on the individual’s Rights belonging to Religious or Linguistic National or Ethnic Minorities. The theme of Minority Rights Day 2022 is “All in 4 Minority Rights”.

Madurai Aravind Eye Hospital:

  • Madurai Aravind Eye Hospital has been awarded the Green Hospital Award by the Global Green Hospital Organization for reducing environmental pollution, water and electricity consumption.
  • Madurai Aravind Eye Hospital uses high efficiency air conditioners, pumps, LED lights and fans to consume less electricity.
  • As a result, electricity consumption has decreased by 25 to 30 percent. In recognition of this, the Global Green Hospital Organization has given an award for 2022.

 

International Events:

Cindy Hook:

  • The Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games organising committee has named American executive Cindy Hook as its first CEO.
  • After speaking with 50 candidates over a six-month period, the organising committee made the announcement of the appointment.
  • Cindy Hook is a successful entrepreneur who led Deloitte Asia Pacific from September 1, 2018, to May 31, 2022. From 2015 until 2018, she served as the company’s CEO in Australia.

 

International Migrants Day:

  • International Migrants Day is observed annually on December 18 to bring attention to the social and economic realities of migrants around the world. This day is observed to guarantee that the rights of migrants are equally respected and not violated.
  • The mobility of people is still influenced by a range of factors despite the world’s rapid growth and change. Currently, 281 million individuals are international migrants who reside in nations other than their own.
  • International Migrants Day serves as a reminder that the challenges faced by migrants in every country remain unresolved, and policymakers must continue to develop constructive and comprehensive policies to address the issue.

 

Leo Varadkar:

  • As the Prime Minister of Ireland, Leo Varadkar, who is of Indian origin, will take office for the second time on December 17, 2022.
  • Leo Varadkar, who has been the Deputy Prime Minister, will take over as the Prime Minister again. Varadkar has served as the Prime Minister of Ireland from 2017 to 2020.

 

Sports Events:

FIFA World cup:

  • Messi’s Argentina won the FIFA World Cup Final between Argentina and France for the third time. Argentina has won the prize money of 347 crore rupees. For the third time after 36 years, the Argentine team has won the football world cup in penalty shoot out.
  • Lionel Messi’s Argentina and France compete for the FIFA World Cup. Argentina return home with a prize money of Rs 347 crore for the first prize from Qatar.
  • This is Lionel Messi’s last FIFA World Cup win. After 1978 and 1986, Argentina won the trophy. Lionel Messi’s team recorded this victory with a score of 4 to 2.

 

Rehan Ahmed:

  • Rehan Ahmed becomes England’s youngest-ever Test Cricketer to debut in the final match between Pakistan and England.
  • Rehan Ahmed will be 18 years and 126 days old when the match begins. Till now, Brian Close, who was 18 years and 149 days old, was the youngest player in England during the New Zealand vs England match in 1949.
