National Events:

” Azadi Ke Rang”:

  • Films Division is organizing a 3 – day online film Festival ” Azadi Ke Rang ” from 13-15 August 2022 on its website and YouTube channel . A total 11 films presenting major milestones of our freedom struggle and freedom fighters will mark the occasion .
  • Films Division will also release a special commemorative DVD Set of 18 unique films on freedom struggle and important historic moments on 15 Aug.

 

IIP:

  • The Index of Industrial Production ( IIP ) eased to 12.3 % in June against 19.6 % in May 2022 . According to the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation data , the growth in IIP data was led by the manufacturing and electricity sectors .
  • The electricity sector rose 16.4 % . IIP growth in June 2021 was 13.8 % , IIP is an index that details the growth of various sectors in the economy .

 

Conference on the Indian minerals and metals industry:

  • National Mineral Development Corporation Ltd. ( NMDC ) and FICCI ( Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry ) will be organizing a conference on the Indian minerals and metals industry on 23-24 August 2022 .
  • It will held on the theme ‘ Transition Towards 2030 & Vision 2047 ‘ in New Delhi . It is being organised in collaboration with the Union Ministries of Steel and Mines .

 

National Statistical Office:

  • India’s retail inflation fell to 6.71 per cent in July 2022 , the lowest level in five months , as per the National Statistical Office ( NSO ) data released on 12 August 2022 .
  • The Consumer Price Index ( CPI ) based retail inflation stood at 7.01 per cent in June . Retail inflation for rural areas declined to 6.80 per cent in July 2022 from 7.09 per cent in June .

 

IAF & RMAF:

  • A contingent of the Indian Air Force ( IAF ) left for Malaysia on 12 August 2022 to participate in a bilateral exercise named ‘ Udarashakti . This is the first bilateral exercise being conducted between Indian Air Force and Royal Malaysian Air Force ( RMAF ) .
  • IAF is participating in the exercise with Su – 30 MKI and C – 17 aircraft while the RMAF will be flying Su 30 MKM aircraft .

 

Marina Tabassum:

  • Renowned Bangladeshi architect Marina Tabassum has become the first South Asian architect to win the prestigious Lisbon Triennale Millennium Lifetime Achievement Award .
  • She is known for her architectural designs that break away from commercialism and deeply embed environmental concerns .

 

Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur ( the Legion of Honour ):

  • The French government on 11 August 2022 bestowed Shashi Tharoor , a Congress MP , the Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur ( the Legion of Honour ) , its highest civilian honour . The award has been conferred upon Tharoor in recognition of his writings and speeches .
  • This award was established in 1802 by Napoleon Bonaparte . It is awarded for excellent civil or military conduct .

 

Ministry of Ayush & MeitY:

  • Ministry of Ayush has signed an MoU with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology ( MeitY ) for the digitalisation of the Ayush Sector under the Ayush Grid project .
  • Under this MoU , MeitY will extend all technical support required for the Ayush Grid project including the adoption of emerging technologies . Minister of Ayush : Sarbananda Sonowal . Minister of MeitY : Ashwini Vaishnaw.

 

SMILE-75:

  • The Social Justice & Empowerment Ministry on 12 August 2022 launched the ‘ SMILE – 75 ‘ initiative .
  • It has been launched for comprehensive rehabilitation of persons engaged in begging in 75 identified municipalities as a part of the celebrations of 75 years of Independence .
  • It is a part of the Ministry’s ongoing SMILE project ( Support for Marginalised Individuals for Livelihood and Enterprise ) .

 

International Events:

World Sanskrit Day : 12 August 2022:

  • World Sanskrit Day is celebrated on Sawan Poornima of the Hindu calendar . For 2022 , it was observed on August 12 . It was first celebrated in 1969 . Sanskrit is one of the most ancient languages .
  • The Indo – Aryan language was first derived 3500 years ago . The scriptures mark their origin in the second millennium BCE when the Rig Veda was composed .

 

UNMOGIP:

  • UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has appointed Rear Admiral Guillermo Pablo Ríos of Argentina as Head of Mission and Chief Military Observer for the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan ( UNMOGIP ) .
  • He succeeds Major General José Eladio Alcaín of Uruguay . UNMOGIP was founded in 1949 and is headquartered in Islamabad , Pakistan .

 

UNCTAD Report:

  • According to a report by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development ( UNCTAD ) , around 7.3 % of Indians owned some form of digital currency in 2021 .
  • It also states that 15 of the top 20 nations in terms of digital currency ownership were developing countries , with India ranking 7th , one position behind US .
  • Ukraine topped the list , with 12.7 % of its population holding crypto assets .

 

World Organ Donation Day : 13 August:

  • World Organ Donation Day is observed every year on August 13 across the globe . The purpose of observing this day is to spread awareness about the importance of organ donation and to encourage people to do the same .
  • The first – ever successful living donor organ transplant was carried out in 1954 in the US . India has its own organ donation day that is observed on November 27 each year.
