National Events:

Nitish Kumar:

  • Nitish Kumar on 10 August 2022 took oath as the Bihar chief minister for the eighth time . Nitish Kumar has earlier served as the Union Minister under PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee .
  • Tejashwi Yadav was also administered the oath of office as deputy CM in a ceremony at Raj Bhawan . Bihar capital : Patna . Governor : Phagu Chauhan.

 

Ethanol Plant at Panipat:

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated to the nation the 2nd Generation ( 2G ) Ethanol Plant at Panipat in Haryana on 10 August 2022 . It has been built at an estimated cost of over Rs 900 crore by the Indian Oil Corporation Limited .
  • It will generate around 3 crore litres of Ethanol per annum . India’s first ethanol plant was inaugurated in Purnia , Bihar in April 2022 .

 

Virtual meet of the Asian Regional Forum:

  • The Election Commission will be hosting a virtual meet of the Asian Regional Forum in New Delhi on 11 Aug 22 .It will be on the theme ‘ Making our Elections Inclusive , Accessible and Participative ‘ .
  • It will be a precursor to the Global Summit for Democracy to be hosted by the National Electoral Institute of Mexico in Sept 2022 . Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar will preside over it .

 

SBI:

  • State Bank of India has become the first Indian bank to frame a policy to fund makers of lab – grown diamonds .
  • The bank’s operational guidelines for financing man – made diamond houses include the standard prudential practices like treating non – fund limits at part with funded limits . Lab grown diamonds are the replicas of natural stones .

 

Zoological Survey of India:

  • The Zoological Survey of India ( ZSI ) has published a book titled ‘ Field Guide , Birds of India ‘ . It deals with 1,331 avian species found in the country .
  • The Zoological Survey of India was founded on 1 July 1916 by the Ministry of Environment , Forest and Climate Change . It is as premier Indian organisation in zoological research and studies . Headquarters : Kolkata.

 

M1xchange & HDFC Bank:

  • HDFC Bank has partnered with M1xchange promoted by Mynd Solutions Pvt Ltd to make a debut in the Trade receivables Discounting System ( TReDs ) platform .
  • TReDS system , regulated by RBI , enables MSMEs to auction their trade receivables online and borrow funds from the financial institution which offers loan at the lowest rate of interest . HDFC CEO : Sashidhar Jagdishan. Headquarters : Mumbai.

 

Government e – Marketplace ( GeM ) portal:

  • Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on 9 August 2022 launched the onboarding of cooperatives on the Government e – Marketplace ( GeM ) portal . The move will allow cooperatives to procure through the GeM portal like other government buyers .
  • Over 300 cooperatives have been onboarded as buyers on the GeM portal to enable them to purchase goods and services at competitive prices .

 

Manisha Kalyan & Sunil Chhetri:

  • Manisha Kalyan & Sunil Chhetri have been named the AIFF Women’s and Men’s Footballer of the year respectively for the 2021-22 season . For Kalyan , it was her first Women’s Footballer of the Year award .
  • While Chhetri has been honoured for the seventh time with this award . He was first named for the award in 2007 . All India Football Federation ( AIFF ) Founded : 1937. Headquarters : Delhi.

 

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao:

  • Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on 7 August 2022 launched the ‘ Nethanna Bima ‘ scheme for the weavers of the state .
  • Under the scheme , Rs 5 lakh would be deposited in the nominees ‘ account in case of unfortunate death of an eligible beneficiary ( weaver ) .
  • Telangana government has joined hands with the Life Insurance Corporation of India ( LIC ) for the implementation of this scheme .

 

ONDC & SIDBI:

  • ONDC has signed a Memorandum of Understanding ( MoU ) with SIDBI for coordination of functions of institutions engaged in similar activities .
  • The partnership is aimed to change the landscape of MSMEs by bringing them into the ONDC network and accelerating their participation in e – commerce .
  • The MoU was signed by Sivasubramanian Ramann , Chairman & MD of SIDBI and T Koshy , MD & CEO of ONDC .

 

Society for Personality and Social Psychology:

  • Ahmedabad University professor Ramadhar Singh has been marked on the ‘ Heritage Wall of Fame ‘ of the Society for Personality and Social Psychology ( SPSP ) in the US . With this , he has become the only social psychologist from India to receive this honour .
  • He has been honoured by the SPSP for his extraordinary contributions to social psychology and management .

 

Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari:

  • Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari inaugurated the 22nd ‘ Bharat Rang Mahotsav ‘ at Rabindra Natya Mandir in Mumbai on 9 August 2022 .
  • It is a 5 – day theatre festival which is being organized by the National School of Drama under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav campaign .
  • The festival will showcase plays of renowned theatre directors based on the life and sacrifices of our freedom fighters .

 

International Events:

World Lion Day : 10 August:

  • Every year August 10 is celebrated as World Lion Day . The history of the day lies in 2013 when Dereck and Beverly Joubert , co – founders of the Bit cat initiative , and National Geographic made a partnership to create World Lion Day .
  • Lions are in the endangered species category on the IUCN ( International Union for Conservation of Nature ) Red List .

 

World Biofuel Day : 10 August:

  • World Biofuel Day is observed every year on 10th August to create awareness about the importance of non – fossil fuels as an alternative to conventional fossil fuels .
  • This day also honors the research experiments by Sir Rudolf Diesel who ran an engine with peanut oil in the year 1893 .
  • The World Biofuel Day is being observed by the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas since 2015 .

 

Sports Events:

44th Chess Olympiad:

  • The 44th Chess Olympiad , which was inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi in Chennai on 28 July concluded on 9 August 2022 . India ‘ B ‘ team settled for a bronze medal in the Open section while India ‘ A ‘ women’s team finished third .
  • The Uzbekistan team won the gold medal in the men’s section . The next edition of the Chess Olympiad will be held in Budapest in Hungary in 2024 .
