National Events:

Three flights:

  • Three flights connecting five cities of Assam , Arunachal Pradesh , Meghalaya , Manipur and Mizoram have been inaugurated.
  • A flight connecting Imphal and Aizawl under Regional Connectivity Scheme ( RCS ) UDAN will operate five times a week , while a flight connecting Shillong and Lilabari will operate four times a week. A flight connecting Lilabari and Ziro will operate twice a week.

 

Naval Commanders ‘ Conference:

  • The second edition of Naval Commanders ‘ Conference of 2022 began on 31 October 2022 in New Delhi.
  • The conference serves as a platform for Naval Commanders to discuss important maritime matters at the military – strategic level through an institutionalized forum.
  • During the 4 – day conference , Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will address and interact with the Naval Commanders.

 

Tata Steel:

  • Tata Steel has received ResponsibleSteel certification for three of its production facilities in Jamshedpur.
  • The steel works , tubes division and cold rolling mill ( Bara ) have joined the group of other steel producing sites around the world with the certification.
  • ResponsibleSteel is the steel industry’s first global multi – stakeholder standard and certification initiative.

 

Union Home Minister’s Special Operation Medal:

  • The ” Union Home Minister’s Special Operation Medal ” for the year 2022 have be awarded for 4 Special Operations.
  • The medal was constituted in 2018 to recognize those operations , which have high degree of planning , high significance for the security of the country / State / UT and have significant impact on the security of larger sections of the society. It is announced on 31 October every year.

 

National Unity Day : 31st October:

  • The National Unity Day ( Rashtriya Ekta Diwas ) is celebrated every year on 31st October to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel , India’s first Home Minister.
  • He played an important role in persuading many princely states to join the Union of India. This day was first celebrated in 2014. This year ( 2022 ) will mark the 147th birth anniversary of Sardar Patel.

 

Mata Amritanandamayi Devi:

  • Union Government has appointed spiritual leader Mata Amritanandamayi Devi as the Chair of India’s Civil 20 ( C20 ) , an official engagement group of the G20.
  • The C20 is a platform for civil – society organisations ( CSOs ) to bring forth non – government and non – business voices to the G20 leaders.
  • India will assume the Presidency of the G20 for one year from Dec 1 , 2022 to Nov 30 , 2023. G20 Founded: 1999.

 

ECI:

  • The Election Commission of India ( ECI ) will host international conference on the theme ‘ Role , Framework & Capacity of Election Management Bodies ‘ from 31st Oct to 1st Nov in New Delhi.
  • ECI , as the lead for the Cohort on ‘ Election Ⓡ Integrity , has invited Greece , Mauritius & IFES to be co – leads for the cohort. The conference will be inaugurated by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar.

 

Electronics Manufacturing Cluster:

  • Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar has announced that an Electronics Manufacturing Cluster will be developed in the Ranjangaon area of Maharashtra.
  • It will be developed at a cost of ₹ 500 crore. The Government would be contributing 207.98 crore in its development. The overall cost of development of the EMC is likely to be 492.85 cr.

 

Uniform Civil Code:

  • Gujarat Government has decided to set up a committee for the implementation of Uniform Civil Code in the state ahead of assembly elections. The State cabinet has cleared a proposal regarding this.
  • The high – level committee will be headed by a retired high court judge and will have three to four members. The decision is in line with PM’s vision of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat.

 

Telangana Government:

  • Telangana Government has withdrawn general consent earlier given to the Central Bureau of Investigation ( CBI ) in the state. From now on prior consent will be required on case to case basis for probe in any case.
  • Before Telangana, 9 other states had also withdrawn consent to the CBI. The states are : Meghalaya , Maharashtra , Punjab , Rajasthan , West Bengal , Jharkhand , Chhattisgarh , Kerala & Mizoram.

 

GMS:

  • The 4th edition of the Goa Maritime Symposium ( GMS ) will be conducted by the Naval War College ( NWC ) at Goa from 31st October to 1st of November 2022. The theme of GMS – 2022 is ‘ Maritime Security Challenges in the Indian Ocean Region ‘.
  • The symposium is conducted biennially by the NWC , Goa. The participants comprise Captains and Commanders from Navies & Maritime forces from friendly foreign countries.

 

International Events:

Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva:

  • Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has been elected as new President of Brazil . He defeated incumbent President Jair Bolsonaro in the elections.
  • Lula da Silva has secured 50.83 per cent of the votes , whereas his opponent Bolsonaro managed to get 49.17 per cent votes. He earlier held the position of President for two terms from 2003 to 2011.

 

Poland:

  • Poland has chosen US firm Westinghouse to build its first nuclear power plant. The move comes in as a part of Poland’s efforts to burn less coal and gain greater energy independence.
  • The plant would be built in the Pomerania province near the Baltic Sea coast. Poland plans to spend 40 billion dollars for the building of two nuclear power plants with three reactors each.

 

World Thrift Day : 31st October:

  • World Thrift Day is marked every year on 31 October in order to raise awareness about the importance of savings. In India , due to the death of late PM Indira Gandhi on the same day in 1984 , this day is celebrated on 30th October.
  • The 1st International Thrift Congress which was held in Milan , Italy in 1924 had declared October 31 as World Thrift day. 2022 Theme : ” Saving prepares you for the future “.

 

Sports Events:

Women’s Under-17 World Cup:

  • Spain retained the reigning champions at the Women’s Under-17 World Cup that held in India. The team beat Colombia 1-0 in the final to win the title for the 2nd time.
