National Events:

ISpA:

• Indian space economy is set to reach $ 13 billion by 2025 , according to a joint report prepared by Ernst and Young & the Indian Space Association ( ISpA ).
• Satellite services and application segment would form the largest share of the space economy accounting for 36 % of the space economy by 2025.
• ISpA is the apex industry association of space and satellite companies in the country.

United Nations World Geospatial International Congress:

• PM Modi addressed the United Nations World Geospatial International Congress on 11 October 2022. The theme of the event was ‘ Geo – enabling the Global Village : No one should be left behind ‘.
• It was organised by the United Nations and the Departments of Science and Technology and Space in Hyderabad.

Jayaprakash Narayan’s birth anniversary : 11 October:

• The birth anniversary of Jayaprakash Narayan , popularly known as JP , is marked on 11 October. He was born in 1902.
• One of the prominent faces of the Quit India Movement , the ‘ Lok Nayak ‘ is still remembered for leading the mid – 1970s opposition against Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
• In 1999 , Jayaprakash Narayan was posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna , India’s highest civilian award.

NCGG:

• The two – week , 53rd Capacity Building Programme in the Field Administration for the Civil Servants of Bangladesh was inaugurated at National Centre for Good Governance ( NCGG ) at Mussoorie on 11 Oct 22.
• This is the only institute to have trained 1,727 field – level officers of Bangladesh Civil Service. It was set up in 2014 by the government of India as an apex institution in the country.

Tele-MANAS:

• Tele Mental Health Assistance and Networking Across States ( Tele – MANAS ) , an initiative of the Union Health Ministry , was launched by Karnataka Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot on 10th Oct 2022 ( World Mental Health Day ) in Bengaluru.
• Aim : to provide free tele – mental health services all over the country round the clock. A toll – free , 24/7 helpline number ( 14416 ) has been set up across the country.

Heli – India Summit:

• Minister of Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya Scindia on 10th Oct 2022 inaugurated the fourth Heli – India Summit in Srinagar.
• The theme of the summit : ‘ Helicopters for last Mile Connectivity ‘. During the summit , Mr Scindia announced that a civil enclave will be built in Jammu at a cost of Rs 861 crores.
• The 3rd Heli – India Summit was organized in Dehradun , Uttarakhand in 2021.

Modi Shaikshanik Sankul:

• PM Modi inaugurated Phase 1 of Modi Shaikshanik Sankul , an educational complex for needy students in Ahmedabad , Gujarat on 10th Oct 2022. This project aims to provide facilities to students for holistic development.
• Later , the PM laid the foundation stone for projects worth over 1,460 crore rupees in Jamnagar. He also dedicated 800 TPD Caustic Soda Plant at Dahej.

CSMIA:

• Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport ( CSMIA ) has entirely switched to green sources for its energy consumption needs , making it one of India’s 100 per cent sustainable airports.
• The CSMIA was also the first in India to launch hybrid technology that solely runs on green energy since April 2022. CSMIA has prepared a roadmap to achieve ” Net Zero Carbon Emission ” by 2029.

Sustainable Mountain Development Summit – XI ( SMDS – XI ):

• Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav attended the inaugural session of Sustainable Mountain Development Summit – XI ( SMDS – XI ) held at Leh , Ladakh on 10th Oct 2022. Theme : ‘ Harnessing tourism for sustainable mountain development ‘.
• The SMDS is a flagship annual event of the Integrated Mountain Initiative ( IMI ) , a civil society – led forum that comprises 10 mountain states & 2 UTS.

X – ray spectrometer ‘ CLASS ‘:

• The X – ray spectrometer ‘ CLASS ‘ on the Chandrayaan – 2 Orbiter has mapped an abundance of sodium on the moon for the first time , according to ISRO. The findings of the spectrometer were published in ‘ The Astrophysical Journal Letters ‘ in the last week of Sept 2022.
• The new findings will be helpful in the study of surface – exosphere interaction on the moon. Chandrayaan – 2 launched : 22 July, 2019.

IDBI Bank:

• IDBI Bank on 10th Oct 2022 signed an MoU with Pune – based Vayana Network as its first fintech partner for end – to – end digitalization services.
• This partnership aims to contribute in the growth of the supply chain finance penetration in India , which is less than 1 % of gross domestic product ( GDP ).
• Recently , the Central government & LIC decided to sell off their 60.72 % stake in IDBI Bank.

Seva Vikas Co – operative Bank Limited:

• RBI has cancelled the licence of Pune – based Seva Vikas Co – operative Bank Limited as the lender does not have adequate capital and earning prospects. It would be unable to pay its present depositors in full.
• As per the data submitted by the bank , about 99 % of the depositors are entitled to receive the full amount of their deposits from the Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation.

Punjab Government:

• The Punjab government on 10th Oct 2022 announced that it will establish horticulture estates in Ferozepur , Gurdaspur , Faridkot and Ludhianal districts.
• Equipped with the latest technological information and machinery , these estates will provide facilities to horticulturists to help them produce high – quality fruits and reduce their cost of production.

’HIMCAD’:

• To provide irrigation facilities to farmers of Himachal Pradesh , the state government has started a new scheme named ‘ HIMCAD ‘.
• The scheme will provide end – to – end connectivity of farmers ‘ fields for better water conservation , crop diversification and integrated farming.
• According to the latest data , about 80 % of the agricultural area of Himachal Pradesh is rain – fed.

‘ Football for All ‘:

• Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik on 10th Oct 2022 launched ‘ Football for All ‘ in the state to take the culture of football to the grassroots.
• It has been initiated by FIFA in Odisha in partnership with the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology & Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences.
• This is the first such programme of FIFA in India that aims at promoting football among school children.

Tamil Nadu Events:

Mixed science course:

• For the first time in Tamil Nadu, University of Chennai has introduced a mixed science course in undergraduate courses.
• Through this, the curriculum will be set up in such a way that the students studying Bachelor of physics, chemistry and mathematics will have secondary subjects similar to the main subject.
• This new course has been introduced in collaboration with the University of Melbourne, Australia.

International Events:

Tom Cruise:

• Actor Tom Cruise will soon become the first actor to shoot in space. He has partnered with director Doug Liman on a project that calls for him to perform a spacewalk.
• The Hollywood actor and director have reportedly approached the Universal Filmed Entertainment Group ( UFEG ) with a proposal for Tom to launch himself up to the International Space Station.

International Day of the Girl Child : 11th October:

• International Day of the Girl Child is commemorated on 11th October every year for empowering girls and amplifying their voices around the globe.
• This day recognises the rights of the girl child and the challenges faced by them across the world.
• This day was established by the UN General Assembly in 2011 & was first observed in 2012. 2022 Theme : ‘ Our time is now – our rights , our future ‘.

ISS:

• Italian astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti , in Sept 2022 , became the first European woman to command the International Space Station ( ISS ).
• The commander is responsible for all tasks performed by the crew members on board the space station.
• Cristoforetti , 45 , was selected by the European Space Agency in 2009 to become Italy’s first female astronaut. ISS launched : 1998.

Nobel Prize in Economics:

• This year’s Nobel Prize in Economics has been awarded to three American experts for their extensive research on banks and the financial crisis.
• The Nobel Prize in Economics has been announced for Ben Bernanke, who served as the head of the US Central Bank from 2006 to 2014, and experts Douglas W. Diamond and Philip H. Dybwick.
