National Events:

Armed Forces Tribunal ( Principal Bench ) Bar Association:

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will inaugurate a National Seminar on ‘ Introspection : Armed Forces Tribunal ‘ on 20 August 2022 . It is being organised by the Armed Forces Tribunal ( Principal Bench ) Bar Association in New Delhi .
It is being conducted as a part of Raising Day celebrations of the Armed Forces Tribunal . It aims at resolving the problems and difficulties faced by the litigant .

RBI article:

An RBI article has revealed Rajasthan has accounted for the highest share in the total cost of projects sanctioned by banks and financial institutions in Fiscal year 2022 . The state has retained the top position for two consecutive years .
Uttar Pradesh stood at the second position followed by Gujarat . The article is titled ‘ Private Corporate Investment : Growth in 2021-22 and Outlook for 2022-23’.

Shiprocket:

Shiprocket became India’s 106th unicorn after raising $ 33.5 million in a funding round co – led by Temasek and Lightrock India . Shiprocket was valued at around $ 1.2 billion with the fresh round of funding .
The term unicorn refers to a privately held startup company with a value of over $ 1 billion . Recently in May , Neobank startup , OPEN became the 100th unicorn in India .

‘ Har Ghar Jal ‘ certified State:

‘ Goa ‘ and ‘ Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu ‘ have become respectively the first ‘ Har Ghar Jal ‘ certified State and UT in the country . In this State and UT , people from all the villages now have access to safe drinking water through tap connection .
Jal Jeevan Mission ‘ , launched in August 2019 , aims to provide potable tap water supply to every rural household of the country by 2024 .

HAL:

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited ( HAL ) on 18 August 2022 signed an MoU for opening its first international marketing & sales office in Kuala Lumpur , Malaysia . This office in Malaysia will help HAL in tapping the new business opportunities for Fighter Lead in Trainer ( FLIT ) LCA .
It will also help HAL expand its services in South East Asia . HAL Headquarters : Bangalore. Chairman : R Madhavan.

Electric Double Decker bus:

Highways and Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari on 18 August 2022 unveiled India’s first Electric Double Decker bus in Mumbai . Switch Mobility Ltd , a subsidiary of Ashok Leyland , has manufactured this unique electric double – decker bus called ‘ Switch EiV 22.
The Switch electric double – decker can carry nearly twice the number of seated passengers compared to a single – decker bus .

India – Philippines:

The 4th India – Philippines Strategic Dialogue was held in Manila on 18 August 2022 . In this both the countries discussed Defence and Security Cooperation & also exchanged views on Association of Southeast Asian Nations ( ASEAN ) -related matters .
In February 2022 , External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had visited the Philippines with the aim to strengthen bilateral ties .

Sports Events:

Manisha Kalyan:

Manisha Kalyan has become the first Indian footballer to play at the UEFA Women’s Champions League . She made her debut for Apollon Ladies FC in the European Club competition in Engomi , Cyprus .
She was awarded the AIFF Women’s Footballer of the Year for the 2021-22 season . Kalyan had produced impressive performances for the national team and Gokulam Kerala in the Indian Women’s League ( IWL ) .
