National Events:

Two MH 60R Multi-role Helicopter:

  • The Indian Navy received two MH 60R multi – role helicopters from the US at the Cochin International Airport on 28 July 2022 . The copters were delivered by the Special Air Assignment Mission Flight of the US Air Force .
  • The first three helicopters delivered in 2021 are being utilized for training the Indian Navy crew . Another helicopter is scheduled to be delivered on 22 August 2022 .

 

IVPA & MPOC:

  • The Indian Vegetable Oil Producers ‘ Association ( IVPA ) and the Malaysian Palm Oil Council ( MPOC ) have signed an MoU . It has been signed to further cooperation between the two organisations to promote the use of palm oil .
  • The MoU also seeks to create greater awareness of Malaysian palm oil , benchmarked through the Malaysian Sustainability Palm Oil ( MSPO ) certification standards .

 

AIF Awards:

  • Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar gave away Agriculture Infrastructure Fund ( AIF ) Awards in New Delhi on 30 July 2022 . It was presented to the Banks and States for their contribution to the AIF scheme .
  • AIF was launched in 2020 , under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat Package . It provides a medium – long term credit facility for investment in the creation of post – harvest management infrastructure .

 

Power Ministry’s flagship Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme:

  • PM Narendra Modi launched the Power Ministry’s flagship Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme on 30 July 2022 .
  • The scheme aims at improving the operational efficiencies and financial sustainability of the Distribution Companies ( DISCOMs ) and power departments .
  • It has an outlay of over 3 lakh crore rupees over a period of five years from Financial Year 2021-22 to 2025-26 .

 

Conference on drug trafficking and national security:

  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated a conference on drug trafficking and national security on 30 July 2022 .At the conference , over 30,000 kg of drugs will be burnt and disposed of by Narcotics Control Bureau ( NCB ) teams in Delhi , Chennai , Guwahati and Kolkata .
  • The NCB started the drug disposal campaign on June 1 and over 51,217 kg of narcotics have been disposed of by it in 11 states .

 

India’s next High Commissioner to Bangladesh:

  • IFS officer of 1994 batch Pranay Kumar Verma has been appointed as India’s next High Commissioner to Bangladesh .He is currently serving as India’s Ambassador to Vietnam . Verma will succeed current High Commissioner Vikram Doraiswami .
  • Simultaneously , Sandeep Arya , an IFS officer of the 1994 batch has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to Vietnam .

 

FDI:

  • Singapore , the US , Mauritius , the Netherlands and Switzerland have emerged as the top 5 countries for Foreign Direct Investment ( FDI ) inflows into India in FY2021-22 .
  • Singapore has emerged as the top sourcing nation with a contribution of 27.01 per cent . While among the states , Karnataka and Maharashtra emerged as the top two states in receiving the highest FDI for FY 2021-22 .

 

Gujarat Semiconductor Policy 2022-27:

  • The Gujarat government on 27 July 2022 announced a dedicated ‘ Gujarat Semiconductor Policy 2022-27’ . With this , Gujarat has become the first state in the country to have a dedicated semiconductor policy .
  • This new policy offers a slew of incentives and subsidies to manufacture semiconductors . The policy was announced by Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel .

 

IFSCA:

  • PM Narendra Modi on 29 July 2022 laid the foundation stone of the Headquarters building of the International Financial Services Centres Authority ( IFSCA ) , at the GIFT city in Gandhinagar , Gujarat .
  • IFSCA was established by the Govt of India to develop and regulate international financial services centres in the country . It was established in April 2020 .

 

ANC & AAI:

  • An MoU was signed by Andaman Nicobar Command ( ANC ) & Airport Authority of India ( AAI ) in Port Blair on 28 July 2022 to boost inter – island connectivity under Udaan Scheme .
  • As per the MoU , naval airfields at Shibpur ( in Diglipur ) in North Andaman and in Campbell Bay will be utilized for civil operations .

 

Tamil Nadu Events:

IIT Chennai & Tamil Nadu Government:

  • IIT Chennai said it will work with the Tamil Nadu government to implement a scientific approach to road safety.
  • The Special Center for Road Safety at IIT Chennai is working as a think tank on road safety. Based on the data, it has been providing advice to the central and state governments on road safety from time to time.

 

International Events:

Mosi – oa – Tunya:

  • Zimbabwe’s central bank has launched gold coins to tackle the soaring inflation in the country .The coin is called ” Mosi – oa – Tunya ” which refers to Victoria Falls in the local Tonga language .
  • The coins will have liquid asset status so that they could be easily converted to cash and locally and internationally tradable . The cost of one coin was $ 1,824 at the time of launch .

 

Sports Events:

Asia Cup 2022:

  • The Asian Cricket Council on 29 July 2022 announced that Asia Cup 2022 has been shifted to the United Arab Emirates from Sri Lanka due to the political and economic crisis in Sri Lanka .
  • The Asia Cup 2022 is the 15th edition of the tournament & will be played between August 27 – September 11 , 2022 . A total of 6 teams will participate in the tournament . Asian Cricket Council President : Jay Shah.

 

FIFA U-17 Women’s World cup 2022:

  • The Union Cabinet , chaired by PM Narendra Modi , has approved the signing of guarantees for hosting the FIFA U – 17 Women’s World Cup 2022 in India .The tournament is scheduled to be held across 3 cities – Bhubaneswar , Goa & Mumbai – from October 11 to 30 , 2022 .
  • It will be the seventh edition of the tournament . It will be the first time that India host a FIFA women’s football tournament .
