National Events:

Vikrant:

  • The Cochin Shipyard Ltd on 28 July 2022 handed over the country’s first indigenous aircraft carrier – Vikrant , to the Indian Navy .The 262 – meter – long aircraft carrier is the largest ever warship to be built in the country .
  • It has been built at an overall cost of 20,000 crore rupees . It is scheduled to be inducted into the services of the Indian Navy by August 2022 .

 

Rajasthan Grameen Aajivika Vikas Parishad & Telangana government’s Stree Nidhi Credit Cooperative Federation:

  • Rajasthan Grameen Aajivika Vikas Parishad ( RGAV ) on 25 July 2022 signed an MoU with the Telangana government’s Stree Nidhi Credit Cooperative Federation .
  • This agreement was signed to set up ‘ Rajasthan Mahila Nidhi ‘ , a financial institution for women , in Rajasthan .This institution will be operated entirely by women & will act as a complementary body to the formal banking system .

 

ICCR Award:

  • Canadian scholar Jeffrey Armstrong has received the Indian Council for Cultural Relations ( ICCR ) Distinguished Indologist award for 2021 . He was presented the award on 26 July 2022 in Vancouver , Canada .
  • This award has been conferred upon Armstrong in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the study of India’s history & culture . This award was instituted in 2015 .

 

Egypt & ReNew Power:

  • ReNew Power has signed an MoU with Egyptian government to set up a green hydrogen manufacturing facility at the Suez Canal Economic Zone in Egypt .
  • According to the MoU , ReNew will set up a plant with a capacity to produce 20,000 tonne green hydrogen a year .
  • The facility will entail a total investment of up to $ 8 billion . ReNew Power is a renewable energy company based in Gurgaon , Haryana .

 

CoF:

  • RBI said with effect from October 1 , no entity in the card transaction / payment chain , other than card issuers or card networks , can store CoF ( card on file ) data . Any such data stored must be purged .
  • Other than card issuer & card network , the merchant or its payment aggregator , can save the CoF data for a maximum of transaction date plus 4 days or till settlement date , whichever is earlier .

 

RBI:

  • RBI has allowed another window to payment aggregators ( PAs ) existing as of March 2020 to apply to the central bank for a licence . PAs could now apply for a licence by September 30 , 2022 .
  • Those applying should have a minimum net worth of Rs 15 crore as on March 31 , 2022 . The RBI also said that the timeline of March 31 , 2023 , for achieving the net worth of Rs 25 crore by PAS would remain .

 

’Punjab Khed Mela’:

  • The Sports Department of Punjab is going to organise ‘ Punjab Khed Mela ‘. In the event 30 sports will be held in six groups under 14 to 60 years veteran with an aim to identify talent , make a conducive environment for sports and increase health awareness .
  • The Mela will be held from block to the state level and will kick start on the occasion of the National Sports Day on the 29th of August .

 

11th agricultural census to collect data:

  • Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar launched the eleventh agricultural census to collect data on various parameters , including operational holdings .For the first time , the data will be collected through smartphones and tablets .
  • The agricultural census is the main source of information on various parameters , such as the number and area of operational holdings , their size , land use etc.

 

IIBX:

  • On 29 July 2022 , Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched India’s first International Bullion Exchange – International Bullion Exchange ( IIBX ) in the GIFT city ( Gujarat International Finance Tec – City ) .
  • IIBX is India’s first International Bullion Exchange set up at the GIFT City , Gandhinagar . IIBX is promoted by five market institutional investor’s i.e. , CDSL , India INX , NSDL , NSE and MCX .

 

Lucknow Urban Co – operative Bank and Urban Co – operative Bank Limited , Sitapur:

  • RBI has imposed several restrictions , including on fund withdrawals , on two Uttar Pradesh – based cooperative banks in view of their deteriorating financial position .The two lenders are Lucknow Urban Co – operative Bank and Urban Co – operative Bank Limited , Sitapur .
  • The restrictions under the Banking Regulation Act will remain in force for six months . RBI Governor : Shaktikanta Das.

 

Reliance New Energy , Ola Electric , and Rajesh Exports:

  • Reliance New Energy , Ola Electric , and Rajesh Exports have signed a program agreement under government’s Production Linked Incentive ( PLI ) scheme for advanced chemistry cell ( ACC ) battery storage .
  • As per the agreement , the companies will build a total of 50 gigawatt hours ( Gwh ) of battery storage . They will receive 18,100 crore under government’s incentive program .

 

Tamil Nadu Events:

‘ Nilekani Centre at Al4Bharat ‘:

  • The Indian Institute of Technology ( IIT ) Madras on 28 July 2022 launched the ‘ Nilekani Centre at Al4Bharat ‘ to promote the Indian language technology . It was inaugurated by Nandan Nilekani , co – founder of Infosys .
  • Nilekani will support the centre with a grant of Rs 36 crores .The Al4Bharat was set up as an initiative of IIT Madras to build open – source language Al for Indian languages .

 

44th Chess Olympiad:

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 44th Chess Olympiad at Chennai in Tamil Nadu .
  • The Olympiad torch which crossed the 75 iconic cities of the Country was brought to the Stadium by five – time world chess champion Vishwanathan Anand .44th Chess Olympiad 2022 is being organised in Tamil Nadu from July 28 to August 10 .

 

International Events:

International Tiger Day : 29 July:

  • International Tiger Day is celebrated annually on 29 July to make people aware of the dangers & problems faced by tigers around the globe .The decision to recognise this day was taken in 2010 at the Saint Petersburg Tiger Summit in Russia .
  • As per the World Wildlife Fund , there are only 3900 wild tigers present around the globe .In 1973 , Project Tiger was launched in India to save tigers .

 

 

Sports Events:

Paris Olympics:

  • Organisers of the 2024 Paris Olympics unveiled ” Games Wide Open ” as their official slogan on 25 July 2022 . Having previously hosted in 1900 and 1924 , Paris will be hosting the Summer Olympics third time in 2024 .
  • The 2024 Summer Olympics are scheduled to take place from July 26 to August 11 2024 .Athletes will compete in a total of 329 events in 32 sports .

 

BCCI & Mastercard:

  • Mastercard has replaced Paytm as the title sponsor for all international and domestic cricket matches organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India ( BCCI ) .
  • The series against Australia in September 2022 will be Mastercard’s 1st series as Title Sponsor of the BCCI . Paytm has been BCCI’s title sponsor since 2015 but on 5 July 2022 , it requested to transfer its rights to Mastercard .

 

22nd edition of the Commonwealth Games:

  • The 22nd edition of the Commonwealth Games kicked off at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham .PV Sindhu and Manpreet Singh were India’s flag – bearers at the parade of the CWG opening ceremony .
  • A total of 54 nations are participating in this sports extravaganza and 6,500 athletes will compete in 280 medal events . The event will be held till the 8th of August .
