National Events:

R & AW:

  • The Government on 24 June 2022 extended the tenure of current Research and Analysis Wing ( R & AW ) chief Samant Kumar Goel for another year , till June 30 , 2023 . Goel was given an extension in service in 2021 too .
  • Goel is a 1984 – batch IPS officer of the Punjab cadre .The Research and Analysis Wing ( R & AW ) is the foreign intelligence agency of India . R & AW founded in – 1968.

 

ICICI Bank:

  • ICICI Bank on 23 June 2022 launched a digital platform , ‘ Campus Power , first – of – its – kind to address the needs of the students aspiring to pursue higher education in India and abroad .
  • This is a one – stop platform , designed to assist the entire student ecosystem comprising students , parents and institutes . The first branch of ICICI on student ecosystem has been set up at IIT Kanpur .

 

G7 summit:

  • PM Narendra Modi will be on a three – day visit to Germany and UAE beginning on 26 June 2022 . PM will visit Schloss Elmau , Germany for the G7 Summit ( 48th edition ) der the German Presidency on 26 and 27 June 2022 .
  • G7 is an informal group of Canada , France , Germany , Italy , Japan , the United Kingdom and the United States .

 

Bharat NC ( New Car Assessment Program ):

  • Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has approved the Draft GSR Notification to introduce Bharat NC ( New Car Assessment Program ) .
  • According to this , automobiles in India shall be accorded Star Ratings based upon their performance in Crash Tests . The testing protocol of Bharat NCAP shall be aligned with Global Crash Test Protocols .

 

Karnataka Bank:

  • Karnataka Bank has launched online savings bank ( SB ) account opening facility through ‘ Video – based Customer Identification Process ( V – CIP )’.
  • The facility empowers the customers to open an SB account through online process and complete KYC verification through a video call at their place of convenience .

Andhra Pradesh cabinet:

  • Andhra Pradesh cabinet on 24 June 2022 approved the proposal of Adani Green Energy Limited for setting up pumped hydro storage projects , with a total capacity to generate 3,700 MW of power .
  • According to the proposal , Adani will set up the plants at 4 different locations in the state . In first phase , Adani will invest Rs 1,349 crore on the projects . Andhra Pradesh CM- Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy.

 

NITI Aayog:

  • Retired IAS officer and former Drinking Water and Sanitation Secretary Parameswaran lyer has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of NITI Aayog . He has been appointed for a term of two years .
  • He will succeed Amitabh Kant , whose tenure ends on 30 June 2022 . NITI Aayog ( National Institution for Transforming India ) founded in – 2015 .NITI Aayog Chairperson – Narendra Modi.

 

VL-SRSAM:

  • India on 24 June 2022 successfully test – fired the Vertical Launch Short Range Surface to Air Missile ( VL – SRSAM ) from an Indian Naval Ship off the coast of Chandipur in Odisha .
  • The test launch was conducted by Defence Research and Development Organisation ( DRDO ) and the Indian Navy . VL – SRSAM , a ship – borne weapon system is meant for neutralising various aerial threats at close ranges .

 

Indian Air Force ( IAF ) & Egyptian Air Force:

  • Indian Air Force ( IAF ) is participating in Tactical Leadership Programme at Egyptian Air Force Weapon School in Cairo West Airbase . IAF is participating with three Su – 30MKI aircraft , two C – 17 aircraft and 57 IAF personnel including C – 17 contingent .
  • The exercise is aimed at enhancing defence cooperation between the two countries . It began on 24 June 2022 and will continue up to 24 July 2022.

 

C-DOT:

  • Centre for Development of Telematics ( C – DOT ) has signed an agreement with Galore Networks for the collaborative development of end – to – end 5G Radio Access Network products & solutions .
  • This agreement will help in the indigenous design , development & manufacturing of 5G products & solutions . C – DOT is an Indian Govt owned telecommunications technology development centre. C – DOT founded in 1984.

 

IB:

  • The Central government on 24 June 2022 appointed senior IPS officer Tapan Kumar Deka as Director of Intelligence Bureau ( IB ) .
  • Deka , a 1988 atch Himachal Pradesh cadre IPS officer , has been appointed for a tenure of two years .Deka is currently the head of the Operations Desk of the IB .

 

G20:

  • Jammu and Kashmir will host the 2023 meetings of the G20 , an influential group of the world’s major economies .
  • The J & K government has set up a five – member high – level committee for the overall coordination of G20 meetings to be held in the Union Territory .
  • Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal was appointed as India’s Sherpa for the G20 in September 2021 . G20 Chairman – Joko Widodo.

 

MEDISEP:

  • Kerala Government will roll out MEDISEP – the medical insurance scheme for State Government employees , pensioners and their eligible family members from 1st July 2022 .
  • The scheme will provide cashless medical assistance with comprehensive coverage of up to 3 lakhs per year . It is being implemented through the public sector insurer , Oriental Insurance Company . Kerala CM – Pinarayi Vijayan.

 

RBI & IOB:

  • The Reserve Bank of India ( RBI ) on 24 June 2022 imposed a monetary penalty of 57.50 lakh on Indian Overseas Bank ( IOB ) for non – compliance with certain directions .
  • The penalty was related to the directions issued by RBI on Frauds – Classification and Reporting by commercial banks and select financial institutions . RBI Governor – Shaktikanta Das .RBI Headquarters – Mumbai , Maharashtra.

 

Academy Award for Translation:

  • Malone, a writer and senior journalist, has been nominated for the Academy Award for Translation. The award was announced for Malan’s translation of Cyrus Mistry’s English novel ‘Chronicle of Corps Bearer’ into Tamil under the title ‘Historical Notes of a Dead Man’.
  • The award was announced for Malan’s translation of Cyrus Mistry’s English novel ‘Chronicle of Corps Bearer’. Accordingly, awards have been announced for translated books published in 22 Indian languages during the event.

Mini tidal parks:

  • Chief Minister MK Stalin laid the foundation stone for mini tidal parks to be set up in Tirupur and Villupuram districts at an estimated cost of Rs 76.90 crore.

International Events:

International Day of the Seafarer : 25 June:

  • International Day of the Seafarer is celebrated every year on June 25 .It is celebrated to honour the vital contribution that seafarers make to global trade and the economy .
  • Seafarers are people who work in the maritime industry , which includes shipping , fishing and other maritime activities . The theme for 2022 is ‘ Your voyage – then and now , share your journey ‘.

 

Woman’s constitutional right to an abortion:

  • US Supreme Court has overturned a 50 – year – old ruling that recognised a woman’s constitutional right to an abortion . This means that the constitutional right to abortion has been ended by the court .
  • The court , in a 6-3 ruling , upheld a Republican – backed Mississippi law that bans abortion after 15 weeks . The court said that individual states are now free to permit or restrict abortion .

 

European Union:

  • The European Parliament on 23 June 2022 granted European Union ( EU ) candidate status to Ukraine , Moldova and Georgia . It was announced by European Council President Charles Michel .
  • Now , in order to join the EU , the three countries will be required to carry out a series of political and economic reforms . European Union Membership – 27 members . European Union Headquarters – Brussels , Belgium.

 

Sports Events:

Asian Track Cycling Championship 2022:

  • Cyclist Ronaldo Singh made history by winning a silver medal in the senior category sprint event at the Asian Track Cycling Championship 2022 ( 41st edition ) held in New Delhi . This was the first Silver won by an Indian in Asian Track Championships .
  • The Indian cycling team finished its campaign with 23 combined medals . Japan topped the overall medals tally with a total of 27 medals .
