National Events:

1)CRE8:

  • India’s largest crypto investing app , CoinSwitch , on 2 June 2022 launched Crypto Rupee Index ( CRE8 ) .It is the country’s first benchmark index to measure the performance of the rupee – based crypto market .
  • CRE8 tracks the performance of eight crypto assets that represent over 85 % of the total market capitalisation of cryptos traded in Indian rupee .

 

2)Telangana Formation Day : 2 June:

  • Telangana Formation Day is observed on 2 June every year . Telangana was officially formed on June 2 , 2014 .It is India’s 28th state and was carved out of Andhra Pradesh .
  • On 1 Nov 1956 , Telangana merged with Andhra Pradesh to form a unified state for Telugu speaking people by sculpting that state from Madras .In 1969 , the Telangana region witnessed a protest for a new state.

 

3)Reforms and Pension Reforms ( 2014-2022 ):

  • Union Minister of State for Personnel , Public Grievances and Pensions Dr. Jitendra Singh released a book and its e – version on 8 Years of Administrative and Pension reforms -2014-2022 , on 1 June 2022 .
  • He also delivered the inaugural address at a webinar on Administrative Reforms and Pension Reforms ( 2014-2022 ) in New Delhi.

 

4)INS Nishank and INS Akshay:

  • The Indian Navy will bid farewell to its two ships INS Nishank and INS Akshay , at Naval Dockyard in Mumbai on 3 June 2022 .Both the ships will be decommissioned at Naval Dockyard after 32 years of being at the forefront .
  • Nishank , the fourth of the Veer – class missile corvette , has been an integral part of the ” Killer Squadron ” renowned for its heroics in the 1971 war .

 

5)Fiscal deficit:

  • India’s fiscal deficit for the financial year 2021-22 stood at Rs 15,86,537 crore , or 6.71 per cent of the gross domestic product ( GDP ) .The finance ministry had estimated the deficit at Rs 15,91,089 crore or 6.9 per cent of GDP in February 2022 .
  • The difference between total revenue and total expenditure of the government is termed a fiscal deficit .

 

6)Punjab government:

  • The Punjab government on 2 June 2022 decided to abolish the physical stamp papers in an attempt to bring efficiency and check the pilferage of State revenue .
  • Earlier the e – stamping facility was applicable only to a value of above ₹ 20,000 , but the government is extending this facility to stamp papers for all denominations starting from 1. Punjab Chief Minister – Bhagwant Mann.

 

7)Indian national flag:

  • The Indian national flag or Tricolour can now be made of polyester and with the help of machines , according to the revised Flag Code of India .
  • The Union government in December 2021 amended the flag code stating the national flag made of polyester or machine – made flags have been allowed .Before this , only hand – woven and hand – spun flags made of cotton , silk , wool or Khadi were allowed .

 

8)North India’s first Industrial Biotech Park:

  • Jammu and Kashmir ( J & K ) Lieutenant Governor , Manoj Sinha and Union minister Jitendra Singh on 28 May , 2022 inaugurated the north India’s first Industrial Biotech Park constructed at Ghatti near Kathua , Jammu and Kashmir .
  • The Biotech Park would act as the hub for the incubation of new ideas and will act as a robust platform to support the agri – entrepreneurs , startups , and progressive farmers.

 

9)NIC:

  • Senior scientist Rajesh Gera was appointed as the Director General , National Informatics Centre ( NIC ) on 31 May , 2022 .Gera is currently Deputy Director General in the NIC .
  • The NIC , under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology ( Meity ) , was established in 1976 with the objective to provide technology – driven solutions to central and state governments .

 

10)GeM:

  • The Union Cabinet on 1 June 2022 approved a proposal to expand the mandate of Government e – Marketplace ( GeM ) by allowing procurement by cooperatives .The move will help over 8.54 lakh registered cooperatives and their 27 crore members .
  • The GeM was launched on August 9 , 2016 , by the Commerce Ministry to create an open and transparent procurement platform for government buyers .

 

11)ABS Marine Services Pvt Ltd & Ministry of Earth Sciences:

  • The Ministry of Earth Sciences has signed an agreement with ABS Marine Services Pvt Ltd , Chennai . It has been signed for running , manning , maintenance , catering and housekeeping of all the six research ships .
  • The six research ships are Sagar Nidhi , Sagar Manjusha , Sagar Anveshika , Sagar Tara , Sagar Kanya and Sagar Sampada .

 

12)GSAT-24:

  • ISRO’s state-of-the-art GSAT 24 satellite Ariane 5 rocket will be launched from French Guiana on June 22. The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has designed the state-of-the-art GSAT 24 satellite to enhance our country’s communications facilities.
  • GSAT 24, weighing 4,180 kg, is ISRO’s 42nd communications satellite. The heavier satellite is due to be launched on June 22 by a heavy rocket Ariane-5 from a launch pad in French Guiana, which is controlled by the European country of France.
  • This GSAT 24 satellite is equipped with state-of-the-art features including the Ku-band transponders, It can be used for DTH television and cell phone service.
  • The rocket will be launched by New Space India Limited (NSIL), a company operating under the Central Space Research Organization. ISRO scientists also said that all the GSAT 24 satellite application services have been leased to Tata Play.
  • The Malaysian-owned Measat3d satellite is also set to be launched on the Ariane 5 rocket.

 

International Events:

1)India – Italy Military Cooperation Group:

  • 11th India – Italy Military Cooperation Group ( MCG ) meeting was held from 31 May to 1 June 22 in Rome , Italy .
  • India – Italy Military Cooperation Group ( MCG ) is a forum established to boost defence co-operation between the both countries .

 

2)India and Sweden:

  • India and Sweden hosted the Industry Transition Dialogue on 1 June 2022 in Stockholm , as a part of their joint initiative i.e. Leadership for Industry Transition ( LeadIT ) .
  • The LeadIT initiative lays specific focus on hard to abate sectors that are key stakeholders in the global climate action .During the event , India chaired the roundtable dialogues on Priorities for implementation 2022-23.

 

3)India and Senegal:

  • India and Senegal signed three MoUs on 1 June 2022 .The first MoU pertains to visa – free regime for Diplomatic and Official passport holders .The second agreement relates to renewal of Cultural Exchange Programme ( CEP ) for the period 2022-26.
  • Third MoU seeks to enhance bilateral cooperation in youth matters .The MoUs were signed during Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu’s visit to Senegal .

 

4)Global supply of wheat:

  • Turkish authorities denied permission to an Indian wheat consignment over phytosanitary concerns prompting a ship to initiate its return journey on May 29 , 2022 .
  • Global supply of wheat has been severely affected by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine since the two countries account for one – fourth of global wheat trade .

5)Global Day of Parents : 1 June:

  • June 1 is celebrated as the United Nations Global Parents Day . On September 17 , 2012 , UN General Assembly passed the resolution 66/292 to observe June 1 as the Global Parents Day.
  • The day is proclaimed in honour of the role of parents in a life of a child . The theme for Global Parents Day 2022 is Appreciate All Parents Throughout the World .

 

6)Indus Water Treaty:

  • India has explained to Pakistan that it is implementing projects such as the construction of a hydropower plant on the rivers in full compliance with the Indus Water Treaty. The Indus Water Treaty was signed between India and Pakistan in 1960.
  • According to the agreement, water from the Sutlej, Beas and Ravi rivers will be allocated for India’s use. Water from the Indus, Jhelum and Chenab rivers is allocated to Pakistan.
  • However, India has been given permission to set up a hydropower plant on the rivers allotted to Pakistan under the terms of the agreement.
  • According to the agreement, the Indus Water Commission meeting should be held at least once a year. In this context, the 118th meeting of the Commission was held in Delhi on May 30,31.
